rims info
« on: May 09, 2012, 07:15:26 AM »
what rims fit trackers and vitara? im looking to get an offset so my tires sticks out the fender wells a bit so i can get rid of sum of the frame rub i have, looking to make this as cheap as i can lol. i don't want to use wheel spacers as i find them dangerous as i almost got killed once with them,so its a no no for me. they got loose with time and the aluminum on steel just made it worst.

the factory rims got 5x5.5 or 139.7mm bolt pattern, either 15 or 16" will fit as mine is just the regular vitara. i have found out ford f150 and f250 4x4 wont fit as the center hub hole is too small,i haven't tried the older jeeps, newer vitara, kia sportage and military trucks,i know older tracker, sidekick, sunruner and samurai will directly fit on but have the same offset as i got now. i have seen a few grand vitara's witch looks like there steel rim centers looks deeper than others, i see them mostly on the ones with the lower body kit/flaring. but never measured to check the offset.

also is there any body have tried putting on older military truck rims on? i got a good set of 16.5 tires but cant find rims for them. older willys and jeeps had those pattern in that rim size, but they look like they might make my frame rub even worst.

i know that i need a set of rims off older 70's dodge 3/4 ton vans, they had the 5x5.5 bolt pattern in a 16.5" rims size and got the 3.75" offset on a 7" wide rim. but i cant find them anywhere.

any info of bolt on rim without modification that would fit a tracker or vitara and work good, let us know. i know alot of guys out there is curious as well.

I had Enkei 15x5.5 alloy wheels on my 99 Tracker, and they had crazy positive offset (center of the wheels moved inward). I think it was like 5" backspace, or very close to. That would come out to about a 40mm offset on that rim. Measure yours in any case; I can't remember if that was outside to outside or based on the nominative width of the rim. Don't know why they did that; I probably would have had a hard time finding replacements with the same backspace that fit over the rear drums.

In any case, I also wanted wider. (I opted for spacers, and yeah, I know they're another failure point. Had a 5 ton van in front of me near Engineer Pass in CO lose a wheel cuz of an insufficiently tight spacer. Wheel must've went a half mile down the mountain.)

I got American Racing Outlaw II alloys, 15x7 5 on 5.5. They have one of the more conservative offsets at -6mm. This moved the wheel face out about 2.8". With bigger tires it sticks out beyond the wheel well.

I think the older toyotas use the 5 on 5.5 pattern, so you might look for those. If you search there are charts online that will tell you which vehicles use which bolt pattern. And then find a size calculator; I used http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp. You could probably fit a wheel in there with even a smaller backspace and more negative offset.

Easiest to find should be f150 or f250 (pre 1995) OR have the centre hole bored out to fit. Also ford bronco and Jeep CJ. All those ones have a bigger offset.

i found a site that shows what vehicle would fit but they dont mention about the hub hole, from what i can tell the ford rims i had was off a 1988 ford f-250 4x4, the middle is too small, i could cut it to fit but i dont want to mess with the wheel balancing either. so far im looking for older jeeps rims to see what it would do

The Zuki's are not hubcentric, removing material from the center bore of the wheel shouldnt affect the balance much, if at all.

The wheels on my Sidekick came from an old Bronco and they fit perfectly (and were cheap!).
