I am looking to buy a Samurai for a fun winter project.  I am looking at one that is a 1991 in decent shape, looks clean and all.  I plan to do the 1.6l swap but in talking to the current owner, he said the guy he bought it from switched from EFI to carb.

Why would someone do this?  Is this a common swap or were there some 1991s with carb still produced?

Sometimes you run into people that feel that EFI is a bad thing.  Or it might have been malfunctioning and he decided it was easier to just swap it out.

That's kinda what I am thinking.  I am thinking I should avoid this one since I am pretty new and I want to do the 1.6 swap with as little hassle as possible. 

If your going to the 16v your going to end up swapping all of the electronics anyway, so it's half and half. 

Oh...see I just got started in this and I thought that if you go to 16v, you want just use the stock EFI system.  Is that incorrect?

The eight valve engine has a tbi (one large injector) injection system, the sixteen valve has four injectors so it is a whole different ecm and harness.

Okay, now it makes sense.  Thanks for the clarification.  Maybe this isn't such a bad deal after all.
