Son of a bitch, broke door hinge, now what?
« on: July 23, 2012, 04:38:46 PM »
While attemting to make my 88 samurai doors removeable, I some how broke the bottom door pin.   So now it's only held by the top.    Anyone have any Ideas on what I can do, besides getting new ones?

The good news is the door is now removable. 8)

I would probably dig into my toolbox to see if i could find a bolt that would be long enough to fit. If it was too big i would grind it down to make it the right size, lube it up, and pop it in there.

Good luck!

I guess you have a few choices.....
weld the door shut.
replace the broken hinge.
don't replace the broken hinge.
take the door off permanently.

You might be able to find/make a pin that will work.  But it might be a bitch trying to get the old pin out, without breaking/F'ing up the hinge.

If it's just the pin, you may be able to use an Allen wrench as a substitute.

I'm thinking the PIN broke off level with that bottom hole, but I think you can "drive" it out from the bottom. Then use a WOODRUFF (sic) key to possibly replace,I think that is what the pin is anyway!

Yes the hinge pin broke of level on the top of the bottom hinge finger.  It's stuck in the middle finger too.  So some how I'll have to get that out as well.

Figured that is what happened, those pins are "rolled" steel, sorry not a Woodruff key but more like a rolled pin.My Samurai doors have NOT been altered (just like the rest of it!!),so I might leave mine "as is"!
