suspension for a tube sidekick
« on: July 27, 2012, 12:57:14 PM »
I am in the process of buying a 4 door sidekick that I will cut the whole thing apart and make a tube body out of. Making it look almost Identical to a rzr4. I am planning on leaving the stock suspension with sway bars removed. (this will be an offroad only vehicle) my question is I am taking a vehicle that weighs 2700lbs and hopefully taking it to the 2000lb mark or below. I am planning on driving this about like a rzr so suspension is key. What can I do to make the suspension softer(which springs and shocks) and get more travel out of the factory setup up?  Thanks

Take a look at what a lot of us have done to the Zukiworld Challenge racers.  Longer links and nice long shocks are a requirement.  I would also switch to 14 or 16" springs as well, running 220 14" on the back of Project Trouble made a world of difference.

For faster off racing you will want to look at increasing your up travel as well.  But your going to be hard pressed to keep up with a RZR.  You only have 6.5" of travel on the front end with the strut suspension, you won't be able to keep up with the 14" they are pushing.

I know I'm not going to be real competitive I just want to be able to hold my own with them, since I can't justify 15 grand on one right now. Where do I get these springs and shocks you're talking about?

FWIW: I don't think you'll be able to keep up with a current Rzr. Maybe if you spent like 15 grand. :)
