Best guess it is coming from the adapter plate between the carb and intake. These plats are generally warped which cause the vacuum leak.

To check for vacuum leaks use some spray carb cleaner around the area you think has a vacuum leak with the motor running. The motor will have a noticeable rpm change when the leaking area is found. There are also other methods in case someone else has one.

Correcting the spacer issue:
Remove spacer and clean it completely.

Get a piece of glass to use to sand on. This is going to be as flat a surface as you are going to need to get the lapping done on the spacer.

Cut a piece of 320 wet/dry sand paper bigger then the adapter plate and tape the edges down to the glass to keep from moving.

(Use some water when doing this part)

Sand in a figure 8 motion. Check the surface often to see your progress on getting the surface flat. Also wipe the sand paper and spacer off apply more water and repeat until flat. This is a slow process but needs to be done.

Be sure to do both sides. Before installing the spacer be sure to clean it with carb cleaner.

On occasion the bottom base plate on the carb has been warped also. This can be checked with a straight edge and a .002 feeler gauge. If the feeler gauge goes under the straight edge then you will need to remove the base plate and do the sanding procedure as described above.

Caution:
Be sure not to over tighten the carb mounting bolts when installing. Start the motor if it idles good you fixed it. If not check for leaks again with the carb cleaner.

Thanks for the info took it apart and cut new gaskets and all is well. Did have trouble with fuel flow but pump was a bit plugged, cleaned and now running. Does idle a bit fast could that have something to do with fuel pressure? Or do I still have a leak? Did not yet put in fuel regulator-the one I bought did not work-LOL
