gear whine
« on: December 29, 2015, 05:10:10 PM »
My Sidekick has a pretty loud gear whine under acceleration.  It goes away as soon as I let off the gas.  I changed my diff fluid a few months ago but go through a lot of muddy water offroad.  I drained the diff fluid today and it had a little milky water in it.  I think the breather tube was a little loose.
I last changed the trans fluid about a year ago.  Again there could be muddy water in there by now so I'm going to change it again.  I'm not totally sure if its the diff or trans.
I ran Mobil 1 synthetic 75w-90 in the diff last time, can't remember what in the traWhat iis the best diff oil to possibly quiet this down?  Is lucas oil additive any good for this?

Thanks

Jon

How long has it been whining ? has it just started or has it been getting louder and louder ?

have you tried it with drivelines disconnected ? could be in the tranny, t-case , or diffs.
