some wheeling pics. (vids added!)
« on: May 15, 2005, 09:40:04 PM »
seeing as we all love pics so much, here are some from the week end.

we did a bit of everything really, some rocky hill climbs, sand, gravel, and last of all, some mud.

it was only me in my vit, and my mate in his sierra. did ok for not much done to it.

also, i came extremely close to breaking at least one of my CVs, but all was good. i just need a whole heap more clearance now! (bottom of rear diff dragging all over the place)

1st pic: me (the asian on right) and my mate (wog on left) standing half way up a very loose hill.

first obstacle, a very rutted hill, not too big, but it swallowed my vit. i got a bit crossed up, and slid into it, the whole car (neutral, no hand brake) was resting on the new tube bar i got. took almost 7 goes to straighten my vit out so i could get out of there. kept centering on the chassis at the top.

i didnt make this one, but there was one next to it, which was also rutted and washed out, but i made it. no pics yet, only vid clips, but will take some screen shots for ya all. heres a close up.

this was just an easy climb, loose dirt and so on, no trouble for the vit, some loud pedal in the sierra though.

this was at the bottom of the above hill, washed out.

when i get some screen shots off the vid clips, i'll post them up. i'll try to keep them in order, but i doubt people actually follow where we are.

Oh yeah, i was running 10psi in my front tyres and 8psi in my rear tyres, still didnt seem that flat, but made a hella lotta difference!

next up, we have the sand pits, which is still a bit flooded. (this is good!) but it was pretty deep in some places, i wasn't game.

we found a little bit of mud, and so naturally, we went and played in it!

i had another mate come along for the trip, as dedicated camera man. (thanks Max) anyway, there wasnt too much time to take pics, as video prevails!

i will edit and post up pics as i get them screen shots. (unless people just want me to post up as a reply)

anyway, we're both getting happy with the water and the mud, and so my mate tries to go a bit harder, and as soo as he hits the grass.....bloop!

rescue mission 1!

i pulled him backwards out of that, but as soon as you disturb the surface, even though its all under water, you get stuck straight away. (sorta like if you stand at the beach and you start to sink in as water washes over ya feet...)

anyway, i will get more pics soon.

the recovery that was caught on video was a classic. had to snatch at 45* and i almost lifted my mate onto his side.

anyway, here are a couple of pics of my front and rear tube bars. not finished yet, need to do a bit more work on them.

oh yeah, i dont know how to put up vids on the net, and i dont know who can host them. so if people want or if anyone can host them let me know. i think zuwharrie have a vids and pics section.

Can I post mine here too, if I don't want to open a special topic for wheelingpics ?
I went Wheeling in Sclayn, Ardennes, Belgium 2 weeks ago with some friends ( the owner and group of clients of www.suzisplace.nl, who also provided 4 "wrecks", or that's what they were when we finished that weekend ;) ), very, very muddy terrein, very slippery, lots of trees, loads of fun ;)

I'll post one here and check back for the answer.

Like I said: Very, very muddy ;)

over all BL is about 3", maybe a bit more.
over all sus lift is about 3" too.
front end has 4" of up travel and 4" of down travel.
front have 5 dr front coils and a 2" coil spacer. front is a bit stiff. also have 2" strut spacer atm, so to be gone. not good for CVs.
rear are coils out of a datsun old school sedan, very soft and very long, and 1" coil spacer. total 3" of lift, with useable spring rates.
rear shocks are sorta unknown, but are about 25" or so extended.

still need to fit OME struts on the front, and a rear a arm spacer.

forgot to add, all above is home grown booty fab!

and HOTROD, the answer is no. i couldnt get up it anyway i tried, it was just too deep for the little vit, kept hitting the chassis rails.

but.... if i had the infamous 8" chassis lift from the UK, it would be a totally different ball game!
