This time ASMC had it coming to them.  They messed up the wiring on the air bags so they didn't go off right, or at all.  Crash test dummy faces slamming into dashboards and steering wheels tends to garner bad reviews.  Thing is ASMC needed the Institute to find this out?!?!?!

Wow, I totally underestimated how poorlt built these Korean Zooks were going to be.  I mean, forget something like a nut or a seal that causes valve damage I can understand, but WIRING THE AIRBAGS WRONG?!!?!!?  There is no excuse for this QA/QC problem from a company that claims to have ISO certification.

Even if such a problem like this happened, it shouldn't have aken the Institute to find it out and usher in a complete recall.  How such a serious manufacturing error that could have resulted in death for it's occupants can occur in the first place is beyond belief.

Yes, ASMC are idiots.  But wait a minute.  Remeber (1995) when we DIDN'T have air bags?  Air bags are a SECONDARY restraint system.  All these vehicles have a PRIMARY restraint system.  If you're not wearing your seat belts, you DESERVE the surprise of discovering that the air-bags don't work.  OK, if the dummies are getting their heads smashed with seat-belts ON, there are probably more serious structural issues with the vehicle.

what's worse?

the Samurai was built 100% by suzuki and the only thing bad about it was that if you drive it (a high centered 4x4) like a ferrrai it will flip.  well, no duh.

but suzuki was crucified for this one thing.

or is it worse that GM has turned Suzuki into it's corporate "bitch" and forced them to sell crappy built Daewoo's that not only ARE NOT 100% built by suzuki but again this time rightfully gives bad press for poor safety issues.

i think it's a shame that Suzuki must take the brunt and the heat for this lump of crap from Daewoo/GM.  this is a REAL safety issue (instead of the fake one brought up against the Samurai) and is not their fault.

-----oops edit------
i forgot to add that what alot of news groups will forget to add....for the sake of sensationalism....is that Suzuki immediately fixed this problem and the car was retested as one of the safest mid-sizes, earning a 4 1/2 star crash rating.  from the 1 1/2 it got before the fix.

The Suzuki S is on the grille, so it's Suzuki's fault plain and simple.

SUZUKI is 20% owned by GM.  They are the corporate bitch.  SUZUKI doesn't make the Verona.  It's built by GM/Daewoo of Korea.

Now the Aerio (4-door sedan) which is an entirely SUZUKI design has gotten a bad rap here in Canada.  The back bumper was said to have no real purpose and that a rear end collision could prove to be rather dangerous for the occupants.

But there are tons of them rolling around.  I don't think this will affect the sales of the Verona or hurt SUZUKI in the USA at all.

Also, if these statements are true about the Verona then it's also true about the Chevrolet Epica.
