Weber 32 DGAV 5E / 32/36 Swap?
« on: June 13, 2016, 11:05:30 PM »
I have an 86 Samurai with a 1.6L conversion and its running an ancient 32 DGAV 5E that I cannot find parts or info on. Can I throw a 32/36 DGAV on it or will there be fitting issues? The 32/36 seems to be the prevalent Weber for the 1.6L conversions on the Samurai. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Yes, I believe that both the 32/32 and 32/36 2-barrel downdraft Webers use the same adapter kits.  (There is a one-plate adapter kit, and a 2-plate adapter kit)  FYI, I have Samurais with both the older 32/32 and the currently offered 32/36 Weber carbs, and I have not noticed anything different in their mounting bolt patterns.

I also think that most parts should be available for your older carb.  There are a wide array of older Japanese and European cars that had the 2-barrel Weber.  Even the Pinto and Mustang II used a Holley branded variation.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I can't get my 32/32 to run right so I am going to try a new rebuilt 32/36. I think the 32/32 may have some funky mods on it or something. There isn't an idle mixture screw... its blocked off or something. The only screws that adjust idle are the throttle screw and fast idle screw on the choke circuit. I have been banging my head against the wall for a couple weeks and I talked myself into exploring the 32/36. Thanks for the feedback

Would I be able to assume that a rebuilt one off eBay will have the jets that will run for a 1.6L conversion? Or should I plan to re jet?

Since the idle mixture screw is blocked off, it likely means that is off another vehicle: Ford Pinto, Mustang II, Chevette, etc.

Roger that, must be why I can't get this to tune correctly then. Thanks again for the info, that was a huge help. I'm new around here so just finding my way  ;D I didn't want to spend the dough on a new 32/26 but it looks like thats the route.

So against my better judgment i bought a 32/26 from webercarsdirect. A north american made carb came and woa nelly was this thing made poorly. It leaks like you wouldn't believe. Sammy starts right up and runs like champ except it leaks like hell from where the carb connects to the manifold which i don't completely comprehend. I am not quite sure what the ports on the bottom of the carb are doing spitting fuel. To my understanding, the fuel should be atomized at that point. The stock gaskets didn't cut it so I went with some liquid gaskets. Gonna wait a couple days for it to cure and see if the leak stops.

The bottom of the carb had a couple nicks in it so I'm hoping the anti flush surface was the cause. Ive got the multiple plates for the weber conversion so i know it bolted correctly. its just leaking really bad and I'm not sure what the cause is. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys
