Need advice on what to buy
« on: July 02, 2016, 05:33:39 PM »
Hey all

I'm new to the forum as of today and I'm in need of some advice on what I should be looking for. Last week my ATV was stolen out of my driveway and I've decided to replace it with a samurai.

What I'm wondering is what's the best year range/model of samurai for hunting, narrow trails, mud, rock climbing etc. Any advice or opinion would be greatly appreciated. Budget is also a concern, I'm hoping to get into my first samurai for under $3000.

I had a samurai for years and then bought a tracker 4dr. The samurai is rough riding, little suspension travel, hard steering (no ps), and has a large turning radius. They look good but that's it. The tracker is smooth riding, more suspension, has ps, and a small turning radius. Good luck with your choice.

As you (like most other new members) haven't mentioned where you are, I would say the number One thing to look out for is RUST.  And number Two thing is poorly done work.  Both of these will require more time than that involved in enjoying your new ride.
93 Tracker,XL7 springs & 1" raised spring pads in front with YJ springs in back, home built bumpers rear & front (w/winch), 2" x 4" rock tubes,  ARB front & rear, converted Sami rear to IFS, 33x12.5x15  aluminum rims, roll cage, 2.7L w/5 speed auto.

I bought my 96 tracker for 2500 bucks and you can get a 3" lift for around 6 or 7 hundred. In my opinion that would be perfect for you budget. :)

Chiming in to echo the statements of look out for rust, lift up the battery for example. Also watch out for home grown modifications, some are just fine but it doesn't take much to make something not road worthy.

Post up some pics as you search and we can assist.

I would say the 4 door would be worth riding!
