Making the move from stock, wimpy, 27" tires, to heavy, strong 31X10.50's makes them a LOT harder to turn.

How are you going to put 35's on a Tracker?  Just chop the fenders with a sawzall?

Not necessary but I would reccomend it. I have been running 33's and manual steering for a while now. You get a real good work out on the trail fighting the front locker but it is managable. You will definately need to learn to 'rock the vehicle when slow turning with the locker. Power steering is being installed on the kick as we speek and I can not wait. If you can afford it get a Kit (or parts off of a junker) and do it. It will make trailriding alot more enjoyable.

since power steering is the topic, how much work/time is it to put in a power steering kit in an early nineties (91) tracker?

Rocking the car is when you rock your vehicle back and forth with some fancy clutch work.

Wheels turn a lot easier when they are moving. So if you’re rocking your truck back and forth it’s a lot easier to re-angle your tires when your in the rocks.

I really don't mind my manual steering.  The 31's are manageable in the rocks, and I know I'm not going to break any of my steering assembly with my arm strength. Where as a power steering unit can easily break the linkage if you have a tire up against a rock and you try to crank the steering wheel.

yah that breakage was the reason i was thinking of not doing the power steering..i have the whole power steering setup in my garage from another tracker..i also have the hard top so i was going to put that in...

i was mistaken also i was thinking 33" tires..or 31s not 35s..dont know where that came from

Power steering will be a direct bolt in. They have the same bolt pattern on the frame and obviously the engine has the same holes on it. As far as breakage, you should be ok with that. 8)
