16v swap hard starting after switching off
« on: September 01, 2016, 12:18:41 PM »
Hey guys, I need a little help to finalise my 16v install on my zuk

So I have been all over my 16v in my samurai. I've checked, double and triple checked all the wiring.

New oil
New spark plugs
New thermostat and coolant.
Larger size fuel line
new exhaust from downpipe to tailpipe (back pressure?)

Sitting over night she starts up fine and runs strong at 2000rpm and i got her to idle at 8oorpm, with a little tension on the throttle cable.
But when he shuts off and try and start it again it is really really hard to start. Sometime I can get her to fire up and run at over 1000rpm, but definitely not driveable.

I am getting a new Crank Position Sensor tomorrow. (could this fix it?)

Does anyone have any suggestions of what could be wrong?
Thanks
Steve

You shouldn't need any tension on the throttle cable the ECU should control the idle speed using the Idle Air Controller. I would check that and also ensure that the ECU is getting the starter signal. Have you checked for fault codes?

Thanks Rhinoman for the response.

Yes without tension she starts up normally and runs great. After a few mins, can hear a little popping and then she drops in Rpm's and eventually dies.

Leave her for 20 mins to half hour she starts up and I can quickly back back her back into the garage. but if she stops running, she is really hard to start. I'll see if I can get a video done

I keep getting "Crank Position sensor) code but I've replaced the CPS with a new one.

Been all over the EVAC and fuel lines to ensure no pinching etc.

Only thing I haven't done is a fuel pressure test, but other then that I'm out of ideas

Have you double checked your timing as well?
