2000 Chevy Tracker front springs
« on: January 03, 2017, 08:04:52 PM »
I am unable to find front springs for my 2000 tracker, the front end sags more and more every day. I really don't want to lift it, would just like to have it back to factory ride height in the front end. What are you guys doing to correct this? Are there any aftermarket springs that any of you have come up with?

It's a little unusual for the coil springs on these vehicles to sag, especially on an unmodified vehicle - your picture shows quite a bit of rust on the rockers - are you sure the problem is sagging springs or is the undercarriage also corroded and possibly collapsing?

The frame and all the mounts are solid, I live in Iowa and it's impossible to keep vehicles from rusting they put alot of salt down and now they are using another chemical that's even more corrosive than salt. I usually run my vehicles the automatic car wash twice a week in the winter but it doesn't seem to make alot of difference.

I would have thought that there were a variety of aftermarket springs available, but a quick visit to RockAuto.com shows nothing - I suspect your choices are going to be the local junkyard or dealer - I do have a pair here, but the shipping would make it not worth your while.

Trying putting a want ad. in the classifieds, I know there are a number of forum members who have done suspension upgrades and might have their old springs knocking around.

I don't think that will cause the springs to sag - as a general rule, coil springs do not "weaken" with age and usage, at least, not in the way that leaf springs will (I know engineers who will argue that it is not possible, but I have seen it happen, so I know it does).

I can understand it happening if the springs are severely overloaded - winch, bumper, dual batteries, skid-plates, etc., which was the reason for my earlier comment about unmodified vehicles, and the picture shown does not show anything of this nature.
