Narrowest 15 inch tires for samurai
« on: January 06, 2017, 09:04:03 AM »
Hello
I could not find a thread with this topic.
I have an 86 Suzuki Samurai, it's stock other than a snorkel.  I run 235/75r15's with no rubbing at all.
I do 80% off road. I am needing new tires.  I will be doing a bit of a lift soon.  The biggest tires I want and need are 31's. I prefer a skinny tirelike 9-9.5.  Who makes a good 31 in a narrow tire.
Also how wide can you safely go on a stock Samurai rim ?

If you do a lot more off road, I would check out some Super Swamper TSL bias. They make them in a 31", but they also make them in a 29" version, and they are only 8.5" wide. My dad had the 32" versions on our Jeep and they were amazing tires off road, just not too good on road.

Yokohama makes the Y742S. Available in a 7.00-15 (roughly same as your 235/75/15), If you go up to a 7.50-16 it's  closer to a 235/85/16 which is roughly 32x9.5...but then you have to run 16" rims.

BFG also makes tall, skinny tires in lower load ratings for trucks like Suzukis and Toyotas. A 30x9.50 might be a good one.

If you look at metric tires you can stay pretty thin, especially if you jump up to a taller rim.

I'm with lija, if you don't plan on doing much of a lift you might want to look at a 30x9.5 instead of going all the way to 31.  Much easier to fit then.  You can use use a set of OME lift springs and swing them without an issue.
