Have you tried smacking the top of the dash? Occasionally my tach won’t work when I start up, and a quick love tap on the dash above the cluster wakes it up...I am sure that means there is a bad connection somewhere, but smacking the dash worked, so I never bothered to hunt the problem...I guess since it is currently down with transmission issues, it would be a good time to chase that problem.
