mirrors on samurais when the doors are off?
« on: March 04, 2004, 02:05:35 PM »
just wondering if any of you who take your doors off yours samurais had any good ideas for new ones mounted on the fender
my best idea was to pull the stock mirror off the door, and relocate it on the fender.... if that would work ???, and fibreglass or patch up any holes left on the door from the mirror.
i definetly dont want two sets of mirrors(one on each door, one on each fender) so any ideas would be good :D
thanks, Andrew

Petroworks, Trailtough, Rocky Road Outfitters, and/or Roadless Gear has mirror relocation brackets that are pretty cheap that go on the upper hinge mount using the stock mirror. Does that help? Hope so. ;D

I had mine mounted on my windshield mounted light tabs. I never thought of mounting them to the door hinge.

FWIW, the passenger side hinge mounted relocation bracket puts the mirror visually in line w/ the A pillar rendering it pretty much useless.

Last Summer I made some brackets that mounted over the windshield mount brackets.  I took them off and mounted the mirrors on the doors when it started to cool off.  About the same time I added windshield hinges, so I have been thinking about a design that will mount under the hinges.  The trick will be the portion under the hinge will need to be duplicated at four places.  So I've been thinking about machining some mirror mount brackets for the lowers and light mounting tabs for the uppers.

Those are some ideas for you to ponder.  It will be at least a month before I get to this but when I do, I'll post some pictures.

I am building my mirror mounts into the uprights for my roof rack.  It is tough positioning the passenger side mirror so that you can see well out of it.  I just put a longer tab on the right side.  This positioned the mirror part way between the original mount, and where it would be if mounted on the hinge.  If I had a digital camera, I 'd take a picture for you...but I'm highly resistant to new technology.
