Not all windshieldwipers are created equal
« on: February 18, 2004, 04:27:41 AM »
I have tried several different kinds of wipers, but they all suck.
I don't know if its the pitch of the windshield or what.
I have a new windshield and the wipers still can't do the job!
I do alot of freeway driving and the wipers were lifting so I shortened the arm springs to apply more force against the windshield.
It still sucks.
Is this just me?

I use Canadian Tire brand winter blades all year round...they work great and they're cheap.

Are you getting streaks in certain locations all the time? It may not be the wind blowing the blades off the windshield glass. The glass may not be completely flat. Take a piece of paper (11x8.5), fold long ways, and get a nice straight edge. Then take this along the surface the wiper would follow. This should let you know the glass has a 'river' in it.

Ya I use those Canadian tire Teflon blades.

They work awesome.  ;D

I also use that Teflon windshield fluid that coats your glass so all the water just beads off.

I've been thinking of buying that stuff.  I think I'll try it out this summer.

I have used, over the years, these brands.

Anco: Used to be the best then they shut down stateside factory and boogied to mexico for cheap labor.  Now their product is just that, cheap.

Pylon: A budget brand one step above Anco since they are made here.

Trico: Invented the wiper blade in Buffalo, also trucked off to Mexico for sub standard pay and labor.  Had a blade literally come apart one time during rain.

Roberk:  Kissin' cousin to Trico.....also a piece of sh*t.

Bosch: Foreign I know, but at least I found a set made in Belgium where wages are not that of near slavery.  Put them on last Sept. 2003........still got em on now.  They still work.

OEM Zuke blades:  ALl I can say is that anyone who pays over 20 bucks for a factory blade that is no better that aftermarket stuff, well, said person needs an IQ test.

Tridon:  Used them once on a Chrysler Cordoba I owned.

Once was enough....can you say SMEAR?

Triple Edge: Chinese rubber on a Korean metal frame does not a good blade make.  Over priced, over rated, and plain noisy on glass.  Hey at least they were packaged in USA.  How lovely, we're good packagers!

The Zuke is on its way out.  Getting a vehicle that will behave and be supported by the dealer.

SLOW DOWN???
NEVER!!!

Thanks for the input. I'm gonna try the teflon blades with the teflon wiper fluid and possibly the rain x.
It just so happens that it DOES streak in the same place time after time.
I do a lot of freeway driving at night in the rain. Sometimes visibility is f/a.

on the rear window we've got some slag (grinder/welder output) on the glass and the wiper always streaks over it...

(you might have something on your glass)

Have you used a glass polish/cleaner?

I've never used a polisher. The windshield isnt that old.
FYI-jlx windshields are a bronze tint. Not the same as the other models.

True, I got lucky when I replaced the drivers
door, the new one had bronze glass too.

I got a replacement windshield a few years ago,
my stock one was going to get me pulled over
for the huge crack right across the drivers side
and in the view area, the new one is just tinted
but it's not as noticeable as I thought it would be.

Nate, Welding splatter huh, must be that beefy new
rear bumper/tire carrier, you can scrape the splatter
off but the pits will remain, you might be able to help
the pits with the Rain-x tho

Some of the metal in the rear window is so small that I couldn't scrape it off with my fingernail and I figured if I tried to use anything which is metal would have compounded my problem with more scratches.
So now I'm just patiently waiting for them to rust away and leave pits behind.
