smack it with your hand or a rubber mallet. generally a plugged cat will rattle. Does the exhaust wheeze or whistle more than usual? The noise usually gives it away. If not, fuel pump/filter, tune up...

the best remedy for a constapated cat, or any cat for that matter (screw you hippy types), is a hammer and a crowbar. just hollow that sucker out.

I used a 1 1/4 hole drill and just drilled it all out. Works good. You should check into the archives a little more cause we just had a thread about it.

no point in hollowing it out a good exhaust shop will take it right out for you for 20 bucks

if you hollow your cat itll give you an improvement over stock but not over just having a straight through pipe

What you want is the shop to build you
a removable "Test Pipe" keep the hollow
cat for future smog checks, or get a new
cat and have it on hand if you don't pass.

this way you can unbolt and replace then
put it back, no welding involved.

I agree with Him. Just have it removed and replaced with a straight pipe. Once you tamper with a cat it will rust out and need to be replaced in the long run. So just make it history and forget it. Been there done that :)

Stop a Tracker for a loud exhaust?  :P

I get teased a lot about how quiet mine is.

Jeep Owner:  "Eric you left your lights on"
Eric:  "It's ok it's still running"
Jeep Owner: "NO WAY".

I don't think removing your cat and still having a muffler will be that loud.

Besides, if they can hear it, they'll be looking for a Honda or the like.  :P

same here.

my tracker's not really all that loud considering i've got my cat hollowed out, stock manifold and no muffler (haven't gotten that far yet).

Mine isn't that loud either, but thats not what i was going for when I hollowed it out. My down pipe is starting to rot on the flange so its not sealing properly and it is kinda loud because of that. But other than that its pretty quiet.

my tracker is pretty loud but not even close to as loud as your average honda and my exhaust is way overkill

plus youll never get pulled over for just your exhaust you have to already be doing something bad and then if the cop wants to stick it to you then theyll bug you about your exhaust

in my old car i had the muffler in the trunk for almost a year and never got bugged i even got pulled over for picking up girls at a bus stop and the cop never said anything about my exhaust
