i got my exhaust done on wendsday it rocks out

its all 2.25" tubing mandrel bent with a red deer automotive glass pack and no cat

i was going to use my dynomax super turbo but it was rotten out inside and when i seen the quality of the glass pack i drooled

any way it sounds really grumbly doesnt pop when down shifting or at any time and id say it gave me about 5 hp and 3 ftlb of torque on the ass dyno

i got it done at a place called martys muffler marty is the best he did a beautiful job on my truck welded everything even the hangers and after all said and done i walked out with only 178 dollars missing from my wallet

oh and since i dont wanna make this a 1 post thread every one will just read and then move on from what are you guys running for exhaust? any one running headers and how do you like them?

I've got the whole Calimini system.  Header and cat back pipes and muffler.  

Sounds really good and I think it gave the engine a boost.  Seems to spool up better.  It's hard to tell because I did a ton of stuff at the same time.  Exhause, gears, tires, lockers, winch, and body lift.

I havent seen the need to remove the cat yet.  Everything seem to flow fine so why not run one?

Also, isn't it the law?  I can't even to begin to imagine what kind of trouble you can get into being caught without one.

This spring, hopefully in April, I am going to order the CALMINI Exhaust system, just the basic muffler and pipes.  I would love to get the manifold, but it's a little to much for me right now.

I hollowed out my cat, the only way they would be able to tell is if they took the exhaust apart

I too have the full Calmini, with header,cat and all. It has a nice deep rumble at idle, throaty growl as you're putting on the power and it is surprising quiet on the hwy. Definitely a power increase especially down low and mid range. I doubt that removing the cat would increase anything but emmissions  ;)

Regarding no cats being illegal. Yes it is technically but it's a matter of jurisdiction.  It's the EPA's job to levy fines for violations not local police departments.  Unless someone turns you in for it to the EPA it's not an issue.  If you have emissions where you live you won't pass the visual inspection without one even though you'd probably pass the actual tailpipe part of the test.  Even if they see it at most emissions places they just tell you to come back when you have a catalyst installed on your vehicle if you want to pass emissions.

If someone turns you in to the EPA then you either have Mrs Kravitz (of Bewitched fame) for a neighbor that also conveniently knows a bit about cars, or you may need to consider improving your people skills (don't be such an A-hole or something) because someone's really got to hate you to turn you in to the EPA.  (or maybe they're a sadistic tree-hugger)

That said, if you don't mind spending 90 bucks or so on a decent high-flow cat, running one isn't the big scary power robbing monster people make it out to be.

Seriously I would wait and get the whole set as a system, you might have to wait an extra month or so for the header, but I really think it's worth it to have the whole exhaust on there as a system for the full benefit.  It will also make it a true bolt on affair whereas without the header you're going to have to pay someone to install it which should pretty well negate the cost of the header anyway. (well maybe not completely but if it's only 50 bucks more to do the whole thing then why not?)

I was thinking about doing the same thing.  Does anyone know how much a new cat. would cost just in case I do have to put one back on?

Here in Mass. there is no way you'll get a sticker with a hollowed cat. The cat drops nOX emissions and without the cat the nOX is thought the roof. Also, co and hc will be close if not high also.

Right on! It was plugged up tighter than a nun's c**t on easter! Runs perfect now! Sounds a little better too...hehehe

A turbo takes the loud and harsh exhaust
note down to a nice tone, It's really amazing
how much difference it makes.

I've been toying with the idea of going to a
freeflow cat and straight out non muffled exhaust
system, at about 2" or 2 1/4" , I know it's supposed
to have a little restriction in the exhaust for torque,
but the turbo adds that so I wanted to open it up a
little more.

I had to get the header.  Mine was cracked.  Might have something to do with all the air time it gets on the dunes!  ;D

Oh yikes, there is no way I am getting the header...I simply cannot afford it... I have to many bills to cover this year, it's going to be painful.  Maybe next year.
