calmini roof rack
« on: February 04, 2004, 08:00:30 AM »
I am thinking about buying the Calmini roof rack, Ihave read nothing but good stuff. But I do have a question regarding the soft top and will the front still open and close like without the rack? ???

This may help:

I don't think you could use the hinge mechanism to fold the front back for the 'sun roof' action. However, Jason could take his hard top piece off quite easily.

All the Jeep carriers have hinges on the rear and you just tilt it back to lower your top or remove the hardtop and put it back and it latches in the front. I think that rack unit needs more engineering and a much lower price.

I have a Steelhorse cage on Suzuki roof bars. Overall I guess its similar to the Calmini set up just implemented differently. I have a one piece top with removeable windows. The front section won't go back as it originally did but there is still enough room to remove the top. You could always fit some arrangement to the front of the rack to hold the softop back if you wanted to use it in 'sunroof' mode
