Broke my tracker (already searched)
« on: May 13, 2005, 05:01:06 PM »
I searched and searched but mabey im just not calling it by ythe right name.

The ball joint on the top link on the rear suspension of my tracker ripped out today while we were wheeling it.

I am getting ready to replace it but i was wondering if there is anythign i can do to make it stronger or better without major fabrication. Im trying to avoid snapping another one out on a trail somewhere.

you could replace it with a heim joint, but that'd require some welding  :-/

is there a write up on this? i would be interested in this, so if you know a link, or pics, or anything, could you post it please.

(a calmini kit would cost more than what i bought my vitara for, but thats no excuse)

thanks

i was thinking of using a heim joint...

Just curious b4 i look into fixing this joint. Do you replace just the joint itself or the whole suspension link?

What set up are you running? Stock, lifted etc..... If you have suspension lifted the rear without addressing the v bar binding up you will continue to have problems. This is usually caused with lifting the suspension with longer coils/spacers without modifying the v-bar.

I did the same thing installing TJ coils.  I popped it back in with a dead blow hammer and replaced it the next day.   I now carry the old one as a spare.   It was interesting to see the inside,  Just a plastic / nylon lined ball socket.
