I had one on a 79 K5 blazer it was fine. Personally I like the sound of the flowmaster on the kick.

Got one on mine (magnaflow) flows good, pretty quiet for being a straight through.  Kinda heavy but that's about the only bad thing I can think of about it.  Costs more than a cheap turbo muffler but any good muffler will.

I like my dynamax in my Bronco. It's a straight flow through design with fiberglass insulation, meaning in/out inline with each other and can see straight through it. The fiberglass is on the inside sides. With the way it was, I'm able to hear a little rumble at cruising speeds, but when hammered down, nice deep throat sound. This is on my Bronco with a conv't top, and little 302.

I should have done what another had suggested. Take old oil and put in muffler to 'flatten' the fiberglass and let drip dry. This becomes a real straight flow through design. That's the plan for the XL7 when time comes to bring up the exhaust after the body lift.

I've got a Dynomax Ultra-Flow on my Datsun and compared to the Magnaflow they're both pretty similar overall in design and construction.  I don't think you'd make a bad choice with either one of them they're both very high quality.  The only thing I'd say is that the Magnaflow is a little quieter overall of the two that I have.  This could be because the Dynomax on the Datsun is a 6" roundx18" body (2.5" variety) and the Magnaflow is a 5x9x 20 oval 2" so it probably has more sound absorbing media than the 6" round does.

The only thing I like a little better about the construction of the Magnaflow over the Dynomax is that the Magnaflow has a Stainless Steel of sound absorbing media between the perforated tube in the middle and the fiberglass type sound absorbing media so it should hold up a little better over time.

I really would stick with the Dynomax or the Magnaflow over the Flowmaster though, they flow better and I personally think they sound much better on 4 and 6 cylinder engines.  Flowmasters aren't bad on V8's but they just sound wierd and kinda boomie on smaller engines.

Muffler sound is pretty much just opinion though so you need to make the call there ultimately.  See if you can hear a flowmaster on a similar sized engine before you buy one.  Magnaflow has recordings on their website of some of their mufflers including one of a Honda 4 banger using one, not sure on the Dynomax other than finding someone using one.

Ahh, now if I could just get my Datsun to emit that wonderful Porsche style flat six exhaust note I'd be happy.  (Theoretically possible with a straight six so it's not the engine layout that's stopping it at least).

Not sure on the oil thing but the center/center isn't a must, I'm using a center/side on the Magnaflow, didn't end up making much difference.  If you're going with a new exhaust anyway the 2" or so offset isn't a big deal to work with at all.  Plus with the Dynomax or Magnaflow you can mount them with either opening front or back and it won't make a difference.

Update: Scratch that, my Magnaflow is a center/center, the original one was a center/side one which screwed me up a little bit.

The magnaflow I used is part# 12214, I meant to order #12254 which is an 18" body instead of the 14" body.  That one is a 5x8 oval. (think I said 5x9 before)

Jegs has a magnaflow 4x9 oval 2" center/center aluminized steel muffler for 69.99 this is the jegs part # for it:

642-11214

For the Dynomax you probably want their part #17514.

If you want a center/center on the Dynomax you have to go with the stainless which is probably going to be more expensive.

The part# for that is #17291 in the 4 1/4"x9 3/4" or #17278 which is a 3 1/4"x7 3/4"   I would go with the bigger one since it will be quieter overall and flow will be equal between the two.  It's also 95 bucks vs. 110 from Summit Racing for the bigger one of the two.  Then again at 70 for the aluminized Magnaflow or 95 for the stainless Dynomax the Dynomax looks a little bit tempting I gotta admit.

Hope that helps a little.

Only thing I can figure out about the use of the oil by suggestion (guy used it on a Bronco, dual exhaust, cherry bombs, 351) is that it provides less restriction on low volume of exhaust which on a v8 probably helped, whereas on a small 4-6 cyl. probably not as great in comparison to the overall diameter of the exhaust system.
My Dynomax muffler is flat oval in shape, about as big as a piece of paper, center in/out, 2" (IIRC). Cost about $30 from the muffler shop.

But if you plan on going off road see what happens when you run a cerry bomb type muffler that you can see through and you get stopped by blm or ranger smith ;D

He's gonna have to be able to see through 5 feet of bent tailpipe that rises up over the rear axle to see in mine.
