Gas mileage

I am reading a lot of Sammy's on Ebay saying they get 30 mpg.  I get about 22 in the summer and 16 in the winter(4wd, warm up time).  Are these guys exaggerating a touch?

I guess it depends on the trucks config.  I used to get 30 on my stock 86 :D, but I'm seeing more of the #s your getting w/ my modified 91 :-/. Soooo, if they're running bigger tires and extra gear (bumpers winches, yadda, yadda) I'd say they're full of it ;)

I don't know. I just got a '97 Geo Tracker. I haven't driven it much, and it's  completely stock. I drove over to where I work and back (total around 200-250 miles), plus some around town, and the first complete fillup gave me 27 mpg. I was not unhappy with that (even compared to the 50 mpg I get with my VW Golf tdi).

well if you mod it heavily with bigger tires
lower gears and heavy bumpers expect 20
maybe less.  I get 15-18 on a good day
but that's with 33" tires and stock gears,
I expect to get 20+ when the gears are in.

I only ever got 23-24 stock new back in 89'

I get around 17 in the winter. Mine is a 16 valve auto. 22-24 in summer

Speedracer7c, my parents had a Sidekick with auto (I think it was '95), and they got about that. I wanted a manual when I started looking because I hoped it would get better mileage. Apparently the manual does. Is your winter driving in a lot of snow, or is it just really cold?

When Suzuki originally released the Samurai they toted 22/25 city/highway.

I'm just hoping that on the trails I get at least 15 or so... Mine sits in the driveway being worked on in between rides.

i have a "92 samurai efi with arb front bumper, shrock rear bumper and shrock sliders. no lift, but do 27x9.50 super swampers on 15x8 rock crawlers. i get 20 mpg as long as i stay below 55 mph. when i go faster than 55, gas milage drops off alot.
  i also have a '96 4dr sidekick on stock wheels and tires. it gets about 18 mpg no matter how fast i drive it. hope that helps. .

yah i dunnno what my mpg is but i know it cost's me $20 canadian and that fills it up and thats good for about 400k

I get about 24 mpg average, stock, no matter what.

I expect to lose some when I lift it.

Wow. I'm a little surprised that most of you all get lower mileage than me. I'm used to seeing people on the VW tdi forum who say they get way better than me. Maybe my drive was particularly good for fuel economy. It's about 120 miles one way, with two long grades up and down (Lookout Mountain and Sand Mountain, for those who are familiar with the lower end of the Cumberland Plateau). I drove 60-65 most of the way. The around-town stuff was just short stop and go.

I have a 97' 1.6L 2WD with American Racing 15" and standard tires. I just filled up and I got a smig over 27 MPG. I was getting about 30 till I secured the Air box. thats why I am going to be drilling holes in the lower section to increase air flow.

My '87 Sammy gets about 16 mpg.  I'm on 32's with a locked rear axle, re-geared xfer case, and about 200 lbs of bumpers, skidplates, rocksliders, hi lift, tools etc. plus my 240 lbs on board.  My buddy has a Sammy that is close to stock (235/75-15's with a Shackle Reversal) and he's getting in the high 20's in the summer, and the low 20's in the winter.

HMMMMM...I GET ABOUT ...WELL I DON'T KNOW  ;D I JUST FILL HER UP WHEN SHE GETS LOW  ;) BUT SINCE THE 32'S AND THE COLD WEATHER MY GAS MAN SEEMS TO LOVE ME MORE  :P  MATTY D.  8)
