tell me more about this megasquirt if you dont mind.  I'm thinking about it for my transam.  Are all the chips for it programmed or do you need them flashed as well?  Is a laptop/desktop all you need?  Is it as simple as build plug tune then play?

If you get the kit, which has the PC Board, and the
Pressure Transducer, good to 15 PSI boost, and the
other computer chip, (I can't remember what it does now)
then you will get the processor with basic flashed
information, all you have to do is program the fuel
delivery curve, and cold start / warmup curve, once
these basic values are plugged in, it is a plug and
play / tune with a laptop.

I would recomend the kit, then order the remaining
components from Digi-Key, they have a list of all the
parts you need for the completion, and the total for
all the parts is about $125, which is really cheap for
as advanced and easy to program EFI system.

I will dig up the link if you need it, or have you
read the web site yet ???

By fire up, do you mean the car, or the computer
by itself??? I have not yet installed the injectors
and computer in the car, but yes the computer
came online first time, I even played with some of
the values in the base program.

I will see if I can dig up a better site for you, I followed
this guys directions for the assembly, and he had some
checks to do along the way to make sure, the circuits
were done properly before you finished and the whole
thing didn't work, this gives you a point to look at and
find any problems in stages.

All I want to do is put injection on my 7.1liter oldsmobile engine, I was thinking about using a gm tbi setup

Unless you want Port Injection, the GM TBI
is going to be the best solution for your 7.1

A friend of mine has a dual four barrel intake, I'll mate two smaller tbi unit on it, probably from a 4.3chev,  run it with a 350 computer,  or weld injector bungs into the intake runners, use two mustang 5.0 throttle plates bolted to the intake and still use the 350 computer with a new chip.

The 350 is 5.7L, why not use an injection
computer from a big block like the 454 ??
or did they come with injection ??

cant find any.  There probably will be a bunch when I'm done (as usual) but right now I cant find a single one.  But yes, that would be best and easiest.

there just is not a lot of 454 chev trucks around here.  I'll sick my friend at the yard on it again soon.  When they get something like that, they yank the drivetrain and dont want to part with the sensors, and want $$$$ for the tbi, hence the 350 tbi with injectors in the plenum.
