Just thought I'd post this lil tip for changing the gear oil in the diffs, tran, and transfer. First thing I just learned today....the hard way!
1: Make SUREyou can remove the fill plugs first!

I changed the gear lube in the front diff first, no problems. Moving back to the trans I made the mistake of pulling the drain first then played hell getting the fill plug to break loose. Now what do I do? The gear lube is all gone and no way of re-filling.... But with lots of grunting and cussing it finally came out! All is well now.

2: Auto Zone sell a neat lil hand pump that attaches right to the top of the 1 gal. jug of gear lube, handy lil item no mess no waste.

You could of checked the amount that the trans takes and then pulled the shifter out and poured it in there same goes for the x-fer case in a pinch, and it is some times easyer

Oh well water under the bridge now, but thanks for the reminder will write that in my note section in the Haynes.

I had my mechanic do that for me, since there is no way I can get under my Sidekick to do that sort of thing.

I can get under mine with a floor jack and jack stands....haahha thats how i do everything...and i have a dirt floor in my garage let me tell you its not fun!

Unfortunately I don't even have a garage, and my driveway is a hill, as you can imagine, it gets pretty interesting out there.  Fortunately I work for a gas staion part time, and the guy is really great about weekends and personal vehicles, and if I don't have th etime he helps me out.  Without that though, I'd be stuck.

Yeah I can get under mine pretty good to inspect the exhaust system and some cleaning around...but other then that, it's off to the shop.  If I had a heavy duty hoist and a taller garage...I'd be set!

You can't do that with a Side/kick trans.  The shifter is remote, meaning that the shifter is extended back about 5-6".  If you tried to fill it that way you'd get a big mess on the floor.  

You could do it on the T-case but I'd be slow going because I think the path the oil would take is the same path as the vent hole.  Like trying to get kectup out of the bottle.
