Hi Im new here.   I just got a 04 XL7 I want to turn off the DRL system can some body help me   Im in Puerto Rico.

Last I knew a system with DRL requires the module in place or your lights wont work at all. NOt sure though. SOmeone who knows better will have to make this a definite.

A solution to this would help a lot of us.  I was in charge of security where I worked when I got my XL7.  It was fun doing surveillance in a vehicle that automatically turned it's lights on after 30 seconds.  Talk about having a neon sign over your head........

I spoke to Suzuki and they were as helpful as usual.....go to my "authorized dealer or spend $180.00 on the manual and figure out the wiring diagram myself.  My authorized dealer had no clue what to do.

If anyone has an idea out there, I'd appreciate hearing about it myself.

OK here is the way to turn the Auto-Night lights off.

This will only disable the auto-night lights NOT the daytime lights.

Carefully pry up the black plastic disk on the passenger side dash with a butter knife or small flat screwdriver. Unplug the wire harness and your done.

After you do this the daytimes will come on but you can turn them off by pulling up the e-brake one click(it shouldn't mess with your breaks)

I know on the older Sidetrack's that the DRL only turns on when you release the park brake.

Is this the same on the XL7's?

Cuz if it is you can probably just "trick" the vehicle into thinking that the park brake is always on.

Though this may have some side effects, like having the park brake warning light on your HUD always active.

Dunno but for what it's worth my wife's Passat works that way too.

You could probably trace it back to a relay somewhere and stop them from coming on there by disconnecting one of the wires on the high power side of it.  It's most likely separate from the actual headlight relay.  It is on the VW anyway and lemme tell ya when it comes to having any one device control everything they're a good example, the ECU on that thing is tied into *everything* on the car practically.  You'll have to test things a bit as it's possible that the DRL circuit is tied into the regular light circuitry and then you'll have to get more creative.

Chances are when you turn on the lights for real it overrides the relay for the DRL's anyway which means you could probably short or open something to make the DRL relay think the real lights are on or the parking brake is on without it affecting the e-brake warning light.  

The DRLs on the wifes Chevy Cavalier run the high beam
bulb at a lower voltage than when the lights are turned on.

This car also turns the DRLs off when in park, or when
the E-brake is up 1 click as well.

You might be able to find the relay that controls the
DRLs and wire in a switch to turn them off, but remember
Japanees cars run the wires all hot, and turn on a circuit
by grounding it, gets real confusing when tracing wires
and they all show voltage on your meter.  :-/

I have an issue of ASMC Tracks (dealer newsletter) that tells how to disable both the DRl and auto-night systems.  They printed it in the newsletter as both of those systems can not be used on military bases.  It's fairly simple.
