8v to 16 v conversion in kick
« on: January 13, 2004, 03:25:40 PM »
Anyone done this, my thought is the whole engine harness, computer, and maybe the dash and gauge cluster, the 16v has a speed sensor ??? the cost could be less and still more power than an 8v with all the goodies.

Thanks
Mac

P.S. can any one clarify when the 16v's came out I thought it was 92 in the 4dr and 94 in the 2dr's

I thought about this a while back, and all of the information I received confirmed all of your statements above. I was thinking that someone brought up something about the fuel pump or lines also, but I can  not remember what it was. The definately said that the motor, harness & ecu need to be transplanted, but I think the cluster would be fine :-/

Yea, that was the main reason I still have a 8V. I like the lower end power and torque range. I'll end up just re-building it or geting another ;)

Ok how far would you go with the cam, isky torquer or z330, I feel you could get away with z330 with out the other hardware on the 1.6 it would never rev like a 1.3 to be a problem with valve float. I ran the Calmini cam in my Sami 1.6 and it helped but it could use a more agressive grind.

you're better off welding injector bungs on the intake runner running the four new injectors in parallel off of the old injector wire, using a large throttle plate off a vortec 4.3.   Way less restriction that way.  basically convering to efi setup.

It runs great because of the factory 4.62 with the auto the 5.13 out of the manual make for a cheap gearing upgrade from the wreckers. It is my first auto truck and I am loving it, on the hills it kick but over the standard, going down I do miss letting 1st gear carry me down, the auto does not engine brake as well.

now this 16 valve head every one is talking about is it the twin cam GTI head from a suzi swift cause i hear there easy to swap in all you need is a timing belt from a honda (well asides from the wiring harness which is the scarry part in my books)

No the 1.3 16V twin cam head is not the same,
the Kick 16V head is a single cam, and you can
use the stock belts for the 1.6 16V kick, the block
is the same 16A if I remember right, so the 16V
head is a bolt on option for you.
