How bout a clutch ?
« on: January 14, 2004, 07:57:16 AM »
My  clutch pedal is pretty stiff, but everything shifts alright up until a point.  I've been out and hit a good mud hole and splash all over the place.  After that, it doesn't really want to go in gear and sometimes grinds.  So what would be the problem with it getting wet and what might i have to do to fix it?

Thanks,

pull the rubber plug out were you do your timing from and take off the bottom plate on the bellhousing and go to a quarter car wash and put the nozzle where the plug was and give it a good blast for a couple of minutes ;D

...AND make sure that your clutch cable is lubed and moving freely. Also, if you have a header your cable may have a housing that is breaking due to heat and is flexing. When it starts getting grindy, pop the hood and have someone actuate the clutch back and forth. Watch the cable and it will flex like an elbow joint if the tube is compromised.

Good luck..

Your throw out bearing, the only other way to do it is pull your trans out(if it is not your cable)and clean it up or replace it! the o ring should not make it stick.

also if you are going to be playing in the mud all the time make sure that your clutch cable has the little boot on it, the one near the trans. and that the rubber plug is in and the lower part of the trans is sealed with a plate of some kind and that nobody has drilled holes in your bell housing. also pull the shift boot off inside the zuk below the stereo and check the boot underneath that one to make sure it is there and has a good clamp holding it in place. also if your shifter has any play in it you will have to pull out the shifter and clean up everything and look at the plastic bushing underneath where the shifter sat and check the bolt out that keeps the shifter from spinning in the hole. a new one is only 2.50 (for the little bolt)and put a little grease back on it and seal the boot real well you should be good to go! Dennis.

Thanks for all the info!!  So i guess theres just a bit of dirt and grime up in there that needs to be blasted out.  I'll have to take a look at it.
Thanks again,
