8V or 16V Junkyard Hunt
« on: May 09, 2005, 11:47:58 PM »
Sorry guys, I know this has been covered, but I am working right now and do not have time to look.

I'm going Junk yard hunting this afternoon and need to know what year the Kicks/Trackers had the 8V in it I think ALL 2 doors had the 8V from 89-94, is that correct?

http://car-part.com/ does list like vehicles with the typical same engine.
Did a search for a 92, Suzuki Sidekick, Engine, Southeast, and had a choice of 1.6l TBI (8 valve) or the 1.6l MPI (16 valve). Prices ranged from $200 to $950. Large variance.

Searching in TN area (Memphis locale), came up with 1994

I like the 16 valve myself, just go buy an old 1994 4 door and drive it home and you will have all you need and more, gears power steering, ect     you can get them cheaper than buying the engine.

MarkyB replaced his engine a while back. If I remember rightly he now has his old 8V head on a 16V bottom end. If I remember rightly you said you had a 16V engine? You would have to contact Mark to verify that that is what he is has.

Cool thanks for the info. I'm gonna look into the leads Jag sent me (thanks 8)) Savannah is only about 3 hr from me and it looks like they have a deal. I plan on keeping the 16V in tact to keep as a spare for the X-90. If the savannah deakl falls through it looks like I'm heading to Ohio. I want an easy bolt in replacment that I can do in a weekend so I can try and make my trip to Wisconsin.

Speaking of junkyard hunt,  anyone know wher I can find a valve cover (alum) for a later model (96) 8V 1.3 engine Swift or Metro should have them.  None of my local yards have anything even listed.  All the online yard hotlines I've tried just send out form letters, but never have it when you call.  Should be a bunch of em laying around somewhere.  They never wear out.
I'd appreciate any leads. I want to change out my steel one while I'm rebuilding the engine.
Thanks,
GS

The trans will be in Fri for the X-90 so we will at least have that. If I can get the dude at the bank off of his ass I'm gonna go to savannah or OH this friday and get a motor to put in the Kick and hope it's in good enough shape to make it to Wisconsinand back. We will be there, I just dont know wich vehicle we will show up in yet.

Thats what they are doing at Hawk. Just a Sammi head on a 16V Bottom end. Just swapped on into my friends last weekend.
