After running the Sammy up and down a steep hill it belches out blue smoke for a hundred yards or so then returns to normal. CO reading 1.83. Could it be that too much fuel is used during deceleration. Starts and runs fine with the usual pong from the exhaust when the back is open. Any ideas?

It's important that you make yourself understood otherwise the question you thought you asked might not be the question you get answered.

Does this mean that you get blue smoke after driving uphill and also after driving downhill or does it happen only after the downhill run?

The reason I ask is the next statement you make, or rather question you ask -

- you're unlikely to be decelerating on an uphill run.

Assuming that you drove up the hill and then came down and had the blue smoke issue after the down hill run, the problem is most likely leaking valve stem seals - blue smoke is indicative of oil being burnt, if it is was excess fuel, the smoke would be black - on deceleration the manifold vacuum is high and that can cause oil to be drawn in past the valve stem seals, the oil burns and the smoke accumulates in the exhaust system because there's not a lot of air flow, but when you get back on the throttle and air does flow, the smoke belches out.

Going the other way, you're getting blue smoke after the uphill run, before you make the downhill run, and also after the downhill run, I'd be inclined to think the sump has been over filled.
