Tracker Lift
« on: January 05, 2004, 03:20:37 AM »
I have been thinking of lifting my '01 tracker using the Calmini 2.5' lift.  I was also thinking of using OME 1 1/8 spring spacers available at Rocky Road.  I would also like to use OME front struts since they are longer than  Calmini's.  I have heard that the Calmini kit is very stiff, is this true?  Does it flex well?  Does anybody have experience with this setup and what kind of results does it net?
I was also going to use the 2' body lift also available at Rocky Road.  Do I need to do any brake line, steering or fuel filler modifications with this?  How easy is it?
And finally, approximately what is the largest tire I can fit on my Tracker with this total 5 1/2' lift?  If I have to trim fenders, where will I have to trim them?  I am willing to trim, but I am NOT willing to use a BFH to "modify" the floorboards, so please keep this in mind.
    Thanks in advance.

I'm running the Calmini 3+3 combo on my 92 Tracker.

Yes the ride is more stiff than stock, but I've grown use to it.  The truck also feels a lot more sporty now.  You can fly around a corner and it wont sponge out.

As for flex...

The front flexes a little better than stock (we're dealing with IFS after all) and the back flexes pretty good. ( though with a few mods you can make both flex a lot better)

I agree that the Calmini struts are too short.  When you hit a speed bump the strut actually maxes out and you hear a bang noise.  One of Mac's struts just blew up cuz of this (though it could have been defective in the first place)

This problem has an easy walk around though.  You can flip the strut tower upside down to give your strut a bit more travel.  I'm gonna do this this week and see how it works.

I have an '01 Tracker which has a taller strut mount that also holds a strut tower brace under hood, so I dont think flipping the strut mount will be beneficial to me, but thankyou for the other info, it is greatly appreciated.

I have the Calmini suspension and a 3" body lift. The rear will flex very well, my tires will go right up into the wheel well but not rub. I think the front flexes just fine. The suspension starts out stiff but when wheeling it softens up.

I have a 96 Tracker with the Calimini 3+3 lifts.  I'm pretty sure my lift was made with the weight of the front bumper and a winch in mind.

The first year I didn't get the bumper winch combo and the ride was REALY stiff.  After the bumper and winch (warn 8000i) it rode a lot better.  Not stock but better.

I think I've read that if your not running that combo and are not planning to you can cut a few coils to soften the ride.

You'll have to talk to Calimini to know for sure.

It flexes good for a IFS and with front, rear lockers (ARB's) it'll go anywhere on a set of 32 MTR's.
