Just got back from the tire place today.  Come to find out the rims I got are not totally true.  The balance machine has a dial indicator on there and I got to watch the whole process.  Lots more advanced adaptors than when I balanced tires as a petroleum transfer engineer.
Anyway, instead of the cone mount, this place had an adaptor that allowed the wheel to be mounted  on five studs and torqued down.  I saw the runout; three rims were a tad out of runout, the fourth was worse.  The guy did a credible job but did tell me he's seen lots of rims over the last few years, particularly Toyota & Chrysler where the lug holes and/or the center hole is not cast properly.  This means the rim will never be in dynamic balance.  He got me pretty close and the ride is much improved although there is still some vibration at 45 or so.
No charge and they were fast and truthful.  By allowing me to see what was going on , I felt more comfortable that I was not getting a line of bull.

I bought a set of rims from Summit Racing and they have the same exact problem.  Mine are so bad that people stop me to tell me that my tire looks like its gonna fall off.  I'm thinking of just going back to my stock rims and 1"spacers.  What a waste of $400 dollars...Summit wouldn't listen to my complaint because I already mounted the tires.  :'(

LOL my problem is the bent axle flange,
the rim never bent, it was the axle LOL
go figure, I mean it was only a 80 pound
rock I tore up out of the riverbed when I
was doing that donut  :P

Hamster, did it shake before the coopers were put on? If not then they are full of it. Also, The adapter they are useing to balance by the lug nut holes are famous for being crap. I dont belive that BS.  Ive never seen an aluminum zuki wheel spin anything other than perfect.

Also these tires are on steel, not aluminum rims.
Third, these tires are mounted on 4 rims I got from a guy in State College who took them off his 2000 Vitara and put on aftermarket alloy wheels.

By design, no steel wheel is perfectly round. I still think its BS. Have a different tire put on. Id bet anything its the tires.

I did see the wheel on the machine and there is out of round to the rim......just a tad, you have to watch closely to actually see it.

Hmmmmmmmm...............can you come out here and take a spin in mine for kicks?  ha ha ha.......bring your buggy and we'll go off road!  ;D

I'd bet on the tires too.  My stock Sammy wheels are waaay out of true (not the ones I'm selling), and the truck still drove fine on them when properly balanced.

I wonder how I can advance the arguement its the tires?  Maybe I should go back .............with a baseball bat!

go to another shop and have them mount your spare on that rim, drive around in the rim with spare. If it fixes the problem, return to the Cooper tire shop tell them what you did, that they are full of %$#|removethispart|@ and you want a new &^%$ tire >:(

The steel rims that I have are actually two pieces, one piece is the round metal rim and the other piece is the center section.  I think that the problem is caused because the center section wasn't welded on very straight.   They do wobble a lot, but I have had no vibration problems on the highway.

Thats what I told Summit.. >:(  Who the #$%^ would ever check to see if a wheel was true or not before mounting a tire. ???  Well, they did offer to take a look at them, but only if I could clean them up and make them look brand new.  Also, they said that if they did not find any problems with them they would send them back with the shipping at my cost.  Thats crazy because then the shipping would end up costing more then the rims themselves.
