I was leaving work yesterday in my 87 samurai. And I start hearing this ticking noise. It sounded like it was coming from the back of the samurai. Within a mile or 2, the noise got really loud and somewhat highpitched. Click! Click! Click! repeatedly over and over again. I noticed it only made the noise when I would give it some throttle. I slowed down to check it out, and the slower I got, the louder the noise got. When I had slowed to about 25-30mph it turned into a vibrating popping noise. POP POP POP! By the time I had slowed down to about 10-15mph everytime it would POP, the whole samurai would jerk really hard. I made a complete stop and climbed under my samurai. Driveshafts are all in place, nothing appears to be broken. I get back in it, stick it in gear and slowly move forward. It went about 4inches then BAM!! It felt like the rear-end was trying to lock up. Every 4-6 inches BAM!! I thought it was going to jerk the dash out. I had a friend come and I told him get in and just ease it forward. He did so, and when it "locked up" the rear end itself just twisted the leaf springs a little and looked like it was trying to roll forward then BAM!! it broke free, made it another few inches and did the same thing... Now my question is, does anybody know exactly whats wrong? And, can it be fixed, or do I have to replace the whole rear end. And, does anyone have the parts to fix it. I have the money... If I have to replace the whole rear-end, im going to go find some toyota axles to put in it.. Any info or help would be greatly appreciated seeing as how i am out of a car at the moment.
Thanks so much
Brian
