Iiiii - got it ----
« on: November 14, 2003, 07:25:12 PM »
Picked it up this morning. Kind of funny though - and typical for my luck on vehicles lately. The guy had it running while we where exchanging title for cash. We funished the deal then walked around to the other side of the little devil -- and there he was - puking out a bunch of antifreeze !!!! luckily it was just a small hole in a coolent line behind the carb. Had it fixed in about 5 minutes with the trusty leatherman. But kind of nice in a way to -- a vehicle I can work on !!! Unlike that freaking Tahoe I have to carry the tribe around in. Christ those damn engineers made a mess of things under that hood !!!
Anyway - a few other things came up so far to fix. The first one is the clicking of the ignition switch sometimes when starting it -- I found on the net that this may be a common item and they sell a kit to fix it . Any suggestions on which kit to by ??
The other is -- when it warms up - it will want to stall when coming up to a stop sign and won't idle worth a damn. Any help would be great ..
Oh - I couldn't resist a little detour on the way home . Up in the hills where I do most of my shooting there is an area where some people with 4x4's come at night to party , throw mud and climb a few steep hills . ( Boy  those where the day's !!!  - and it  usually  happened in that order !!!) I hit some of the steep hills kind of fast at first just to get back into the swing of things. Before long I hit all the hills - as slow as I could - trying to make it slip or slid and that little asian warrior just laughed at them all as it crawled over the top. It would of been a perfect day if I had a tall/boy to celebrate with -- had to miss that part -- working tonight ... bummer .
If anyone has any ideas I'd sure like to hear them -- thanks  Mac0

Try a can of carb cleaner and a can of fuel dryer and drive it for a few days, mine does the same thing if it sits for a long time. drive it for a while and see if it fixes itself!

SEA FOAM!!!! Go to NAPA this is a zuki's poison put it in the tank put in the carb and even in the crankcase! I suggest this to anyone who has a  tired or broke in four cylinder or small engine great for boat, motor cycles it is the best right before the trail!it is the best for winterizing your vehicle too. check it out the aerosol deep creep seafoam is good for carb cleaner and lube/starting fluid ,penetrate oil!THE CURE ALL ;D

You know just thinking of it - a guy I work with used that Seafoum stuff ( I think it was that ) on his early 70's outboard that is on his river sled. I guess it worked great -- I was just there today picking up some heater hose to replace it before is goes -- I will have to get back and give that a try . I did put in a can of HEET in the gas tank today to .
I spent an hour or so washing the little guy today and boy is it looking sharp. If it looked that good when I first saw it I probably wouldn't of been so hard on the guy talking the price down. Balanced the air out in the tires also - what a differance in driving now. They ranged from 16# to 26# !!!!
Thanks for the replies guy's.

I have the opposite prob with my sami , as far as Idle goes , but I have noticed it you change the timeing it change the Idle , I have mine adjusted all the way down at the carb , and the rest I had to do with the distributor , it runs good, idles high at first but calms down after warm up ..
You might try setting your timing up a little after warm up ...
So were you suprized at what it could do , I sure was when I first got mine , and the more mods I make the more suprized I get , Now Im suprized I dont see more of them .

It's a blue 87'. How much ??  ---- Well -- lets just say I had to max out my stash !!!!! But still way lower that that raty one for $2300 ...
I got some of that "Seafoum" stuff -- got it in the tank and the engine . How does this crap work ?? The guy's at the store and two of the customers where sure up on the stuff.
I have a oil leak on the back side of the block and it looks like it is coming from the distributor area. I'm going to mess with the timing when I look into that problem.
Surprised on the performance -- you bet. It's killing me that I can't get up in the woods for a day and really try it out. This work stuff really seems to get in the way at times !!!!
On the way to work today I was thinking of why the hell I like this so much when I could be sitting in a Tahoe with my butt wrapped in heated leather , cruise control set and the stereo humming away. Then it came to me -- this thing smells !!!!!  Yes it smells -- just like an old freinds beat up 49' willy's jeep that we used to have so much fun in when I was in highschool .. It's brought back so many good memories I think I may have to call that guy up and tell him what I got a hold off. The Tahoe -- great ride - comfortable , reliable and sharp looking. The little warrior - back to basics , could break down and kind of "Ruggedly Handsome" ( kind of like my self !!) .  I guess the only way to put it is -- It's an adventure again !! That's it -- a little bit of adventure again ...

So yours is blue? Mines blue too , dark blue .. I get what you mean about the smell , I have an 87 GMC pickup that smells like the older pickups I grew up with , and man does it bring back memories .. I guess its becuase we are old now and we miss some good old times .. 18 yrs ago I used to work at a gas station that fixed flats and sold tires, to this day when I go in a tire store I cant help but to think about those old days ...
