What needed to put 4dr Kick brakes on 2dr?
« on: November 09, 2003, 08:29:03 AM »
Im picking up an 96 2dr trackick and was wondering after the lift and 31s, I was going to step-up the front brakes to 4drs. Didnt know if 2dr spindles were the same and all I needed is the rotors and calipers, or if I have to swap everything. Help the newbie please.

It's a direct bolt on, just get all the stuff
from a 4 door, install and bleed the brakes.

List:
Backing Plates
Calipers
Rotors
Bracket that holds caliper to spindle (bigger bolt pattern)
kep all the old bolts too, just because you never know.

Crap I even grabbed the pads while I was there.
The rotors on the 4 door are ventilated, you could use the
stock 2 door but why, vents cool way better.

The only thing I didn't grab was the backing plates, a slight
tweek with a big Crescent Wrench and it all fit good, so if ur
on the cheep and the backing plates are too much, use the
old ones, they will work fine.

You might want to get the rear brakes too, I didn't but it would
be a total upgrade that way, and an easier brake petal. ;D

I don't know what the Dia of the sport brakes are,
What I do know is the 4 door brakes have bigger
pistons in the calipers, which gives better clamping
force with less petal pressure. they could be slightly
bigger too, but it was not obvious just looking at
them.

I thought the rear drums were wider, I didn't think
they were bigger Dia. I never did measure them
just an observation looking at one in the wrecking
yard. If they are bigger Dia. I'm going to swap out
those too. When you run 33s the better brakes make
stopping about the same as with 235 tires.

2-door 89 Kick. Does that help? I'll look for another one later.

Sidekick Sports use bigger calipers and rotors! You can't even fit a 15" rim from a Samurai or a reguler Sidekick on it with out spacers. The rim will hit the caliper.
I think the Sports use the same size front brake hardware as the 99+ Trackvits because I ran into the same problem when I was trying to transfer the after market rims from my crashed "97 Tracker to my newwer "00 Tracker.

So if I run 4dr kick sport brakes on my 96 2dr, do I need to run 16" wheels to make sure that I clear the calipers, no matter what wheel I run? (you know how every manufacturer's wheels are alittle different on the inside of the wheel.)

You might be able to run the caliper, but not the rotor,
too big for the 15" wheel.
The caliper is what helps lots in braking, bigger rotors help too
but you can't use em so go with what works for your truck.

My 2000 Tracker came with 15" wheels from the factory and it seems as if they are the only 15" wheels that will fit it. I know that there are other ones out there I just haven't found them yet. The inside of the wheel makes a big difference!

Thank's for the pic's, mine has 15" rims also just the stamped steel type I guess I will have to pull the tires off to see if I have vented or not? and 10" rears or not!

Y run complete knuckles, rotors, calipers... in front and complete 12 bolts rear diff with bigger drums from my roll overed 94 4 doors on my 92 2 doors tracker!

And the stopping power with the 31" are better!
