Might be doing whirlwind tour of Moab this weekend
« on: November 11, 2003, 09:27:37 PM »
Gang, we might be doing a whirlwind tour of Moab this weekend (kind of a let's get the heck out of town deal... since we missed the Zukiworld LaPine thing   :P...) and were wondering what you guys who have been there would suggest for two days in Moab. Any particular trails or sights to see? Keep in mind that it's just us in the Kick, and no one else ('less anyone wants to meet us there....) so we don't plan on doing any trails above a 3.  Gotta drive back home ya know.

We are probably leaving thurs and coming back home on sunday.

Thanks for your input.

Im not sure what hells revenge is rated but you can easily do it in your rig. There are obsticals that might be more than you were looking for but you can bypass. Its like nothing youve ever seen. I would recomend it. The Lions Back is right next to the entrance of Hells Revenge, even if you dont want to do it its worth driving up to the base of it an looking at it. If I were you Id drive up it. Your long, low, and locked in the rear. A perfect setup for Lions back. Also potato salad hill is right next to Lions Back too. I would be careful with this one, its not as easy as it looks. its like driving on marbles uphill. This is good for one days entertainment.

For the second day I would take the Poison Spider. It connects with the Golden Spike trail later on. Poison Spider is pretty mild but beautiful. If you venture onto the Golden Spike you may have to turn around at the Golden Crack :-/ Without a front locker this would be pretty tough to do, However I saw a stock tracker throw his spaer tire in the crack sideways and drive right through. I wouldnt recomend Crossing with out anyone there to pull you back through if things went wrong. If your lucky youll find some one to tag allong with you in town or on the trail. I wouldnt let this deture you from trying the trail. Its Extremely beautiful, one of my favorites. You could drive to the crack, turn around, and be back out in a day. Id start at sun up since the days are getting shorter.

I wish I could join you,Good luck, and most importantly have fun

Thanks for the ideas though!

The only thing required is stability. I still think Heather could do it open.

I dont know about "fearless Hagen" I was pretty scared... but not as much as my passenger! when I got to the top I swung wide to the right and was going to try to do a u turn just to say I did when my passenger seriosly freaked out! Good times. ;D

Yea, there is something about a death factor when climbing something that unnerves me :P Who knows ??? I'll find out if I'm equiped with big enough 00 when I get there.

Is it as steep as it looks, or is it just realy long ???

Actually when you get there it doesnt look as bad as you think untill you start getting tward the top. Its lumpy up there and steeper than it looks on bottom. I carried a tire about 20 feet from the top... I could feel mt heart beating... I guess thats how you know your alive! ;D It is also pretty long. The veiw from the top is awsome. You can also get almost the same view from about 10 minutes into hells revenge.

Yep thats the same place!!! The woman had just went up and back with her husband and he let her try it. On the way down the brakes went out...... She did a hell of a job not going off the side until almost at the bottom.

Seeing it on tv it really doesnt look that bad, but seeing Mikes little ole Tracker in that pic makes me think again  ;)

Later,
Bill
