any know the intruder?
« on: November 05, 2003, 10:16:25 AM »
every car i own and that my parents has is a suzuki or is a rebadged suzuki lol i have recently aquired a 1986 suzuki intruder 700cc cruiser =) very cheap to and it only has 10k miles on it everything runs good just needs some parts to be re chromed and painted

i was starting it up today and noticed it makes kinda what i can only describe as valve chatter? it makes noise from around the top of the cylinder heads

i also would like to know if i could switch to full synthetic oil? if anyones knows these answers it would be great or if u could turn me to a site that could help that to would be awesome =)

Don't know about the noises, could be valve lash or maybe camchains? It shouldn't be too difficult to remove the cam covers to have a look around. You can use a fully synthetic motorcycle oil but avoid newer car oils. Any oil graded above an SH will most probably cause the clutch to slip.

The oil pumps are probably quite different, Japanese pumps are usually low pressure high volume pumps. Generally they use 10w40 oil. Motorcycle oil is blended slightly differently to cope with the higher revs and tighter clearances and because the clutch is inside the crankcases and therefore gets covered in oil.
Possibly not a good idea to suggest to a harley afficienado that a Suzuki is the same thing ;D especially if he is a big bloke ;D ;D

I use 10w40 Synthetyc blend Motomaster oil in my bikes.  If the engine is older, I even ran 20 w 50 in them.   Next oil change I'm trying 15w40? Diesel oil.  If those big rigs can go 500000miles on an engine, then it might prolong my bike

is this noise there when its just ticking over .. if when you pull the clutch in does the noise stop .. if so then its just a rumble on the clutch basket. i own a 96 fireblade and have a rattle on mine that comes in around 3000 revs and goes at 4500 revs
i have spoken to a few dealers and been on the fireblade forums and the word is that this is normal for my model of blade ... its the carb sliders rattling as they are made to be loose.. very loose

moral of this tale .. if none of this information helps you then find a web forum for the make of bike you have ... they will be better able to tell you any little foibles that the model has

i have been looking for intruder forums but most are for the more popular 7-11 the noise is just constant never goes away never changes

and in some ways the forigne bikes are better then harleys =) aside from the fact theres more parts to break they are easier to maintain and people confuse my bike for a harley all the time even peps on harley..well untill i stop and they see the chains missing =)

the bike has 10k miles on it runs great runs fast to =)
