Tranny Swap
« on: November 07, 2003, 01:44:43 AM »
Hey everyone, I have a 95 tracker with a 16 v motor. and an auto tranny, everyone knows that the 3 speed auto sucks! I was wondering if anyone knew how hard it is to swap out the tranny. And also if the clutch plate is already in the car. I am also having a real hard time finding a 16v manual 4x4 computer. If anyone could or would help me it would be greatly appreciated!!

To swap over you'll need a flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, transmission, pedal assembly, clutch cable, and their maybe other little things too. (just going off of the top of my head here.) As far as the ECM goes, I'd try it with the computer you've got. Being pre-OBD2 it might just work fine. If not, I'd give Hawk Strictly Suzuki or Trail Tough a call.

Good Luck, Eric

Are the transmissions 8v and 16v specific? and will all the components mentioned be interchangeable between the 8v and 16v besides the clutch?

I believe that the 8v and 16v transmissions and all associated parts are the same even the clutch. Can I get a confirmation? Anyone... :)

Your right on the money...The whole truck for that matter with the exception of just the engine. The tranny bellhousing mates perfectly to the 8v and vise versa.
