tracker lift concerns?
« on: April 18, 2003, 08:32:22 AM »
ok taxes are in, and pokets are burning (LOL) i was just going to go with the 2 inch Calmini lift and bigger tires.  But in your readers rides section you have a nice group of kick/tracks with combo lifts (body/suspension) with really mean tire and wheel set-ups.
now i like that but i have some issues now about doing something that extreme.
first, i'd like to keep my stock bumpers on front and back, i've never been a fan of tubular or winch style bumpers.  but with a body lift i can't keep them can i?
it doesn't look like it because everyone with an extreme lift has aftermarket bumpers.
also when you do a body lift doesn't that lower your transfer case shifter and transmission shifter too?  How do i remedy that, or does Calmini include the hardware to do that as well.
it's a really nice rig for being a 1995, my neighbors really took good care of it. and less than 40,000 miles on the odo.  I love this thing.

i painted the center console and side vents gun metal like the Ford Escapes, i think it really makes the dash look a bit upscale.  and added 6 1/2inch 3 way speakers in the side panels, the stereo is not thumping but sounds great.
so as you can see i want to keep the car looking good so i want to keep it as much like it is right now as i can while lifting it.
shoud i just go with the 3 inch lift and keep my bumpers or 6 inch combo?
and how do i keep the stock bumpers on if i go 6 inch?

It is possible to keep you factory bumpers with the body lift, but Calmini only makes the brackets for either the front or rear(not sure which). I'm sure the others are not supplied for safety reasons. Most people with the combo lift have the aftermarket bumpers for off-road performance and recovery. If you go with the Calmini 3" suspension lift it will ride rougher than stock if you do not have the added weight of steel bumpers, winck, rollcage, etc.. They designed it for vehicles with the added weight. Their 2" suspension lift will ride good without the added weight. Their body lift does come with a Trans-case shifter extension, fuel filler line extension and all other needed parts to complete the project.

With the 3" body lift did the Calmini rear bumper line up or does it leave a gap?

Thanks

Painting the dash parts gray is a super idea! I'll put it on my summertime to-do list.

thanks for the complements guys.
the prep work was easy.  just remove the pieces (the two side vents w/ side defrosters were a pain in the butt to remove) use a fine sand paper and rough up the surface just slightly. wipe the whole thing clean with a cloth barely damp with rubbing alcohol (to remove any armor all or oily deposits) and then spray in many light coats till it's a nice solid silver.
then i followed with two heavy coats, and a coat of matte finish clearcoat.
I used Plasti-cote (touch-up paint from Pep Boys) in a gunmetal metalic color (just like the Ford Escapes use)
hope that helps you guys and i guess i'm going to go with the 3 inch suspension lift from Calmini, the guy on the phone today said with that kit i can have 30x9.50 tires and wheels.

My Calmini kit came with brackets for both the front and rear bumpers, the rear ones are just some 3" box section so the bumper lines up. The front plates are steel plate, I already had a winch bumper so I didn't use these and therefore can't tell you anything about the fit.

I HAVE THE 6" COMBO LIFT ON MY 95 4 DOOR KICK...I LOVE THE LOOK AND THE RIDE ISN'T AS BAD AS SOME SAY ATLEAST IN MY OPINION.THE 3" SUSP. APPEARS TO BE A BETTER SET UP AS WELL....THEY INCLUDE THE TRANSFER EXT. BUT NOT THE TRANNY EXT. WHICH NEEDS TO BE DONE FOR EASIER BENDING , SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO CUT ANYTHING, IN THE FLOOR..CALMINI PROVIDED BRACKETS FOR BOTH FRONT AND BACK BUMPERS .. I TOO WAS UNSURE WHERE TO START BUT GLAD I DID THE 6" COMBO LIFT...GETTING READY FOR 32'S  :o ...AND ITS REALLY NOT ALL THAT EXTREME, BUT IT SURE LOOKS AWESOME..SOME PICS ON MY WEB PAGES BELOW... MAC IT LINES UP AS BEFORE THE LIFT WAS INSTALLED  ;D
