K&N Air Filter?
« on: October 22, 2003, 01:19:03 PM »
I didn't know that K&N made air filters to fit in the stock air box!  That is so cool.  I've ordered one and it should reach me in a few weeks.   :D

Does anyone else use a K&N air filter and if so, how do you like it?

well when i pulled out the 1.3 and put in the 1.6 16valve with the k&n filter i noticed about a fifty horse increase of power and it given me no trouble yet! it is about one third the thickness of the stock filter and only double the price but it should pay for it self soon. mine is the rectangle one in the stock air box the cone type are a lot louder and i could not see having a filter that i could not keep water away from.

I run a K&N drop in filter in my Explorer, and it works fine.  35k on mine right now.

Hey I love My K & N filter.  I felt the improvement instantly.   When i wandered in the Alvord and was kicking up dust my car started dieng on me.  I was flustered on what it could be.  I checked everything. Then checked my filter. My paper filter from FRAM filled up with so much dust that it choked off air.    My K&N hasn't done that in the worse conditions yet.   And its not letting the crap through.  Cause i did a test line under the filter.   I made 3 lines one with toatal repellant that dust would never stick to That was my neutal .  I also made a section where it would get extremely sticky section just to catch the dust to make sure some was geting in. (No filter is perfect).  I then made sure it was entirely clean.  In 6 months the shade of dust on the inside didn't get any brighter.   K&Ns do their job.  If only every product in my car was of that quality and as effective instantly.

That's my take on them.  They are a great investment. With instant results after placement.

Yep they are great, I plan on one for my track but my last car had one and it was a HUGE difference.  Plus being cleanable they will pay for themselves in the long run.

Good Luck! Joe

I have a 16v motor, and just installed an OEM K&N filter. The old stock paper filter wasn't all that dirty on mine when I replaced it with the K&N. I noticed an improvement right away, the engine seemed to breath better you can hear it, throttle response was improved. The filter replacement was a good choice, every little bit helps.
