Digital Camera
« on: October 21, 2003, 10:44:02 PM »
I know this is off of the Suzuki topic, but I need some info :P. What is a good inexpensive digital camera that has decent options (capacity, zoom, resolution, etc.) ??? I will be using this for trail and modifiaction photos. I dont want to spend alot of money on something that will be bouncing around in my glove box ,getting muddy and greasy.

Also what options should I realy look for ??? nThe guy at the camera shop is trying to sell me a $400 set up with video some rediculous soom and other things I don't need. His sell point is that I wont get decent photos out of the cheap ones :-/

Help,

I have a Fuji FinePix 2650 2megapixel camera and it works great!  Another good choice is the Fuji FinePix A205.  It goes for under $200 and takes excellent pictures.  We have even blown a couple of the pix up to 8 x 10 with good results.  I'd highly recommend it.  BTW, my wife is a photographer, so we are picky about photo quality, and we still like the camera  ;D  Check out this link.  http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/fuji-finepix-2650-reviews.html.

Recommendations woud be to buy a 32meg storage card and NiMH batteries and a charger.  These are the same recommendations that are on the website listed above, but they are accurate.  With the 32 meg card, I can take about 250 pix on the lowest resolution and about 80 on the highest.  For what you want to do, the lowest resolution will work fine.  If you want to see what pix from the camera are like, look at some of my posts here that have pix.  All of them were taken with the Fuji.

jdraper is right. For what we do with these 2 megapixel is fine. I just picked up a 2 mega pixel Kodak for $125. I was very impressed. Clear full size pics and very simple to operate (my favorite!) I then bought the biggest memory card available ($80) so I can hold a lot of pics. It will also take 1/2 hour of video. I havent tried to take any video yet but the pics are fantastic. I would spend the money on the card so if you wreck the camera you can just get another that works with that card. I will send you a pic from last weekend that I took.

To be fair to the sales person he is partily correct, I work for a manufacturer in the photographic industry and the plain goods are if you want to produce any prints at a 8x10 size you will need a 3 megapixel camera, if it is just for the web anything less will do just fine. these cameras are coming down in price all the time with the higher resolution cameras hitting the market. We have a point and shoot nikon 880 digital and are happy with the images, but my father picked up a Canon  both my wife and I feel it is a far better camera than the Nikon. We have a higher end Fuji s2 and love the camera, I can not say enough about it, if the quality is the same on the lower end I think you would be very happy.

Any Cam in the 1.3 plus will take fine
pics to post or even enjoy printed,
I see Cams in the 50 to 80 range
that are cheep enough to not give
a rats |removethispart|@55 about yet give fine trail pics.

Tonka-I have a video camera but it's to nice to carry all the time. If I dropped it in a mud hole I would be pissed off.
Mac- I did explain to him that I would be using for small prints (4x6 or smaller) and the internet and he insisted that I needed the more expensive camera. I guess I should look at it like he deals with the best cameras every day and that's the best bang for the buck in his eyes. What brand do you like best of all that you have used or would reccomend of the less expensives models?
Wild- 1.3? Mega pixels?
