Ack!!!!

I made the mistake of looking at prices for new tyres for my 'zuki  :o  Cripes!

What's a good, general purpose tyre, mostly for raod use, with a bit of mud, snow & gravel tossed in now and then?   :-/

...

Is it supposed to do that?

If you don't drive on ice, the BFGoodrich AT KO are good. My stock sidekick runs these in 235/75/15 and I like them a lot, except on ice. They're not too noisy, they're great in mud (read wet clay!), snow and dirt in general.

If you get a lot of ice during winter, get Blizzaks or a similar winter tire for ice traction. True, tires are pricey, but it's the only thing that keeps you on the road, and off that big tree right there in the ditch, in the middle of that 90 degree curve... ::)

I drive Cooper Discoverer AT's stock size; yesterday I accelerated a little too much through a corner and my SJ did a 180 :o.  The whole time(.05 seconds) I was expecting one of those CHiPs style roll-overs.   Why didn't it happen?   :P

Probably for the same reason you can't believe everything you see on television. How would they keep customers without a little drama? They are in business to make a profit by entertaining the viewers. If that's what it takes, well, that's what they do.

If you have a Sam's club nearby you can get the dunlop mud rovers for about 99 bucks each installed. They have to order them in though it's not a normal stock item but I'm pretty happy with the set I just got, nice and quiet so far for being mud tires.

Radial Swampers with the centers siped. They are not as noisy as you would think. My swampers are way way way more quiet than my Yokahama MT's.  Lasted longer too. Actually pass on the Yokahamas all togather. Crap!

Sorry Im a Swamper kind of guy. 8)

Mudflinger lives in England, I don't think
Sam's Club has got there yet, but I could
be wrong.

Best thing to do is find a discount tyre
dealer and see what they have that would
be in the MT type tread, like the BFG MTs
or a Cooper AKA Pepboys here in the states.

A Buckshot Radial Mudder is the same tread,
there are about 4 or 5 knockoff brands that
have a good mud tread, not sure how the UK
will change the kind of tread available.

I understand Grizzly Claws are a popular
Offroad tyre, I didn't care for the tread
myself but if they work, be happy.

Good Luck,
Darrin

Hmm. Thanks for the advice... I'm not really looking for anything in the Grizzly type of range, since I really don't do enough off-road to justify it, just the odd stint on a muddy track.

And yeah, like I do with oil, I try to to stint on getting the best I can afford.  :)

cheers

You know how it is, everybody's got an opinion.

I like Yokohama Geolander MTs.  My 33s were less than $150/each, I got 2 mpg better than the 31 mudders (on a Cherokee), they are quiet on the road, and they are very aggressive going forward.  In reverse, they are like an AT.  But for the same price as an AT, I get much better forward performance.

Yep, See everybody got an oppinion, I call Yokohamas
Jokinmamas, you couldn't pay me to run those tires.
I bought a set of 2, aligned the front end and they lasted
10,000 miles on my Audi, SO I call em jokinmamas.

Then I got a set of Falkens and they lasted 50,000
miles, so find a tire that suits your needs and enjoy
it.

BTW Interco Super Swamper 33x13.5-15 LTBs
were $125 ea. I deal if I do say so.

the yokymama's have been fairly good to me. I've had a set of 33" goelanders for about 4 years now and they actully still have tread left. But honestly for the same price (around here anyway) you can get swamper ltb's. The only real complaint I have about the yokiejama's is that they have no sidetraction. And the tread gets kinda hard as you wear em down. Ok so thats 2 complaints. All in all a good tire for on-offroad on a daily driver who wheels alot. But having said that my next tires will be swampers.

I forgot to mention the cupping and the dryrot!!!

I run 35 inch yoks for street tires. I cus these things everyday. As soon as I can pull some more $ I will but another set of swamper ssr's for street use. Id like to swap my wheeling tires to BFG Krawlers but I cant pull that kind of cash. $1500 is the best price I can find on 5 of them.  >:( $300 per tire just sounds like a lot of cash for a 35 inch tire. I might try a set of goodyear mtrs.  :-/ I can get those for $150 per tire.

You found 35" MTRs for $150/each?

I'd try them for that.  Where at?
