DAMN! new Suzuki truck is a car!?
« on: August 07, 2003, 05:40:03 PM »
Ok now i can't remember where i read it but the next Suzuki SUV will be based off of the new Chevy Eqiunox.  The Chevy Equi-x is one of those uni-body car based crossover type SUV's.
it sure seems GM is bending poor Suzuki over. First they are forcing Zuki to sell rebadged Daewoos, now this.  Suzuki has such a good presence overseas why doesn't GM tap into those vehicles instead of treating Suzuki like their own personal corporate toilet?

The Zuke is on its way out.  Getting a vehicle that will behave and be supported by the dealer.

What else is new ::). I used to say that Suzuki, Kia, and Jeep were the only companies that marketed in the US that still  sold  only "real" SUV's. I guess now I have to remove Suzuki from that list :'(.

The industry lables a "real" SUV or 4x4 as one having a 4wd-Lo mode.

Aha... but we don't know for sure that Suzuki will base their redesigned Vitara on the Equinox. I have also heard rumors that both GM and Suzuki may not be making the same Vitara/Tracks after this redesign. Suzuki may go off on their own.

From Wards: "The nine new models will be sold exclusively by Suzuki, but the OEM will accept a little help from its friends. The first entries, the '04 Forenza and Verona sedans, are based on vehicles from GM-Daewoo Automotive and Technology Ltd."

"The auto maker will follow in 2004 with a 5-door cross/utility vehicle and a station wagon. In 2005, Suzuki will replace the Vitara and Grand Vitara with a new, small SUV powered by a 2.7L V-6 engine from Japan."

Suzuki Global: "Suzuki Motor Corporation and Fiat Auto S.p.A. signed a memorandum of understanding today, which calls for the joint development of a new sport utility vehicle (SUV).
At a press conference held in Budapest today, Osamu Suzuki, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Suzuki Motor Corporation, and Giancarlo Boschetti, Chief Executive Officer of Fiat Auto S.p.A., emphasized that the new vehicles will be distinctively differentiated in styling from each other’s versions.

These new 5-door SUVs, which will be based upon the new Suzuki A-Segment Platform, will come in both gasoline engine and diesel engine versions. The production will begin in the latter half of 2005 at Magyar Suzuki Corporation’s Esztergom plant in Hungary."

FIAT?!

Possibly this redesigned XL7 may come to the US?
