To chrome or not to chrome that is the question?
« on: July 22, 2003, 05:21:36 AM »
I have an 89 2 dr hardtop with 1,250 original miles on it and an engine that has been massaged by Reynolds Machine Shop in Bakersfield,CA carburation is by Hawk dual sidedraft, Calmini header and exhaust with supertrapp muffler, full roll cage by Calmini and interior by Corbeau and diamond plate interior panels. Currently I pulled the 3" body lift off and did away with the 3" Super Articulation Tossed the Anvil and went with Suzuki Sami running gear, then not liking the set-up bought a new used 89 frame and started over. I had intended to use my mattracks on this vehicle and eventually sold the tracks and the used parts I had to help differ the cost of starting over and now I will be waiting for the prototype of what Eric Bewley is running to come out and buy a new power steer set of 105M1-A1-SA-M Mattracks. So in short when this rig is the way I want and I finally am happy with it I'll have to get a transport company to trailer it to Eric Bewley and Jason Hutchinson so they can check it  out.  Until then I will have some photo's of it up in the next month or so, as it has been in the shop transfering  everthing to the new used frame.

My question to the people here is if I intend to use this as a show truck, should I start chroming the under carriage or paint it?  ???

FWIW I'd say pick a color theme and powdercoat appropriately. Chrome is generally mocked by the 4x4 community...

I suggest doing the chassis and body underside in flat black and the chassis devices in primary colors: Fuel lines a color (red?), brake lines another color (blue?), driveshafts another (gray?) and so forth. Aluminum parts could be natural color highly polished.

The Mattracks Cost more than the vehicle it's self, as for $$$ I have 2 U.S. Patents that pay nice royalties so, it allows me to be building and changing things around as I go. I will be getting a new set of tracks when I'm satisfied with what I've done or until, the better half want's a new Mercedes SKL Compressor which ever comes 1st.
