MOAB in a SUV

Hi all
we are vacationing in Utah and Colorado this year, in between we will have a few days to visit Moab!

Unfortunately it will cost too much to ship the Vitara over from the UK.... so we are hiring a SUV / 4WD.

Can anyone recommend any books / maps / whatever that will tell us where we can drive? A few years ago we had a similar holiday in Arizona, drove the apache trail, down into the canyon du cheyne, and some others, would like to do the same again!

Any help appreciated.

Nick,
When you ge tto Moab go streight to the Visitors center located one block east of the main highway in the middle of town (There are "Visitors Info" signs showing you the way). They had all kinds of great info, books, maps etc  for the entire area. There should be plenty for you to do in a stock SUV to see the area.

Oh Yea, If you check out the different links in the Zukfari 2005 section you could probably find somewhere to order you some info before you go. If I get a chance later today, I will try to remember to look for you.

a friend of mine met us in moab and rented a jeep that had a rear locker and BFG ATs and got around really good . he did hells revenge , gold barr, and goldin spike,fins and things and a few more .

Charles A. Wells Guide is an AWESOME book. It's easy to read and follow. Also, you can buy it at pretty much any store you come across in Moab, if you can't get it before then.

Good book, but the trail descriptions are a bit off.  Prichett is not a nice afternoon run.  ;D

We have decided to hire a jeep for the only full day that we are there.....

I will be buying the Wells guides to Utah and Colorado so we can get off the tarmac during the other2 weeks.

I guess it depends on your type of equipment and what your definition of 'nice afternoon run' is.   8)

I think the book lists Pritchett Canyon as the most difficult trail in Moab.  If that doesn't give a clue, then I'm not sure what else would work.

What parts of Colorado will you be visiting, and when?  I may have a few trail recommendations, depending on the season, along with other points of interest, if you're interested.

We will be in Brian Head (near Cedar City) Utah from 24th - 30th June, Moab first 3 days of July, then Pagosa Springs (near Durango) Colorado for a week after that.

So I guess we will be near the I70 in Utah, but not when in Colorado (?)

Im hopefully visiting the Moab on this years holiday and want to go exploring in an SUV, I was considering early November but whats the weather like at that time of year?

We visited Moab in early November and had a great time.
Bring a light jacket as the weather is cooler.  But we were able to run a lot of trails, no mud.

Still  too early for real deep snow.
