Not to thread jack, but why not drive a few miles west and go to the EJS in Moab? Super fun.... :)

Been there done that only to get my shit stolen, if your head strong and your mind is set on going...BE PREPARED! Here's a thread I posted back in september of my past experience going to Big Bend National Park area.
Quote

I also posted this responce in: I got Jacked...

Well thanks for your support guy's there's so much bullsh*t that I went through, with the border patrol and law enforcement here that I don't know where to begin.
After all the crap and red tape I went through I took matters into my own hands rented a car in Midland/Odessa then went to a Liquor Store there and purchased two cases of Jack Daniels 48 bottles in all at 20.00 a bottle then drove to Presido, Texas to a border crossing that is unrestricted (Boquillas del Carmen) and crossed over into Mexico. Once there I went to Nueva Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico and found a Mexican Federallie who could help me find my truck. Armed with photo's of my truck and the VIN number he found it in Ciudad Acuna, Mexico on Monday the 13th and arrested the bandito who had stolen it. After making sure it was there and he wasn't jerking me I paid him with the 2 cases of Jack Daniels which goes for double the price in Mexico. Then I drove back into Texas after spending 5 shitty day's in Mexico and came through the border town Ciudad Acuna and into Del Rio, Texas to where I returned the rental car and caught a cab back to Ciudad Acuna. I located the Federallies there and they took me to where the truck was, which by the way cost me royally 8 hundred dollars. Upon inspection of the truck every thing was in one piece except that my clothes, cameras, camcorder and CD collection were history. The idot who stole it even had filled the tank up with gas. I drove it back into Texas and made it to Dallas where I'm at now visiting my folks. Wenesday, 15, 12:00 PM I decided to check out the under carriage because I heard something rattling and I found 1 AK-47 fully loaded duct taped to the inside frame rail along with at least ten pounds of  Marijuana wrapped in two neat bundles taped to the backside / inside rear bumper. And to think I drove that across the border like that! My Dad who just happens to live next door to a retired Judge has been keeping him updated with the latest gossip of my plight also told him about the dope to which he had one of his cop buddies come by and pick-up. They told me I could keep the AK-47 and field stripped it of it's ammo and firing pin. So in all of this big bag shit all I get to keep is a non-firing AK-47 and a wild memory of smuggling drugs into the U.S. (not knowingly) So far I'm out 2,000.00 just getting my ride back and tonite I shall install a Kill Switch to the battery in a hidden location.

P.S.
I'll see ya'll later when I get back to Maryland.

I totally agree with Eric, why not drive a few miles west and go to the EJS in Moab? Super fun....   :)

Not to mention it's a lot safer and lighter on the pocket book.

Mileage from Lake Charles, LA to Moab, UT is 1610.4 miles and from Lake Charles, LA to Terlingua, TX it is 804.9 miles. Dam shame I can't go, I have a buddy in Lake Charles that would love to go as well but he's set on going with me in August or September to Medford, Oregon to pick up my ride when it's completed.

I removed this post and reposted it under Eric's so that you can check it out yourself then compare to what I have shown.  :)
