I got the link to this site from a co-worker who is an avid zuki owner and fun runner here in Seattle.  I on the other had own a 87 Westy Syncro that I've tricked out fairly significantly and does VERY well off-road.  My question to you guys is the OBCDR doable in a loaded down Westy camper van?  It looks like loads of fun and just the kind of adventure I would love to do in my syncro.  This would be someting I'd like to spend a week or so on.   Let me know what you think.

I would say no if you want to follow the route strictly... Most of the route is gravel road and dirt road but there are areas where I think you would have trouble. Well, let's put it this way... If you think you can go places a stock Ford Exploder can, then you can probably do it.. BTW: the Exploder that was in our group scraped a lot. I think it would be a clearance issue. Does your Syncro have the propane tank that hangs real low?

If you're more interested in seeing most of the sights and traveling most of the route, (accepting bypasses) I'd then say yes...

I must have missed this one. Is there a posting explaining more about the Oregon Back Country run?

Perhaps on the subject... has anyone heard more about the back-road mapping in WA, OR and CA? I think it was a year or two ago, this was posted in the paper. They mapped a road course running (mostly back roads) through the OR desert country... and would link w/ a couple similar surveys for the other states.

When finished, it was thought you'd be able to drive Canada to Mexico, mostly on "logging" roads.

I do have the propane tank but it's really doesn't hang all that low.  It's also shielded by a skid plate.  I definately can go any where a stock Explorer can go and then some.  It's actually quite amazing what the Syncro will do.  Biggest issue is off-camber as the Westy is a bit top heavy because of the camping gear.  Which sections would you say are the easiest?

Yea... I don't believe the project has happened in CA or WA but Oregon has an "unofficial" route. The website http://www.oohva.com has information and they'll sell you maps of the route.

We, ZUKIWORLD, have done all the sections except for about 2 days worth in the NE corner of the state. (which may happen this year!) Stories and pictures can be found in the Article Archives...

I'd say it's all the same... Mostly gravel and dirt roads with a couple of obsticles here and there. However, everything can be bypassed in some form or another. Check our Archive and http://www.oohva.com for more information...

BTW: They have plotted some other courses in Oregon to take as well...
