clutch cable
« on: July 02, 2005, 07:02:42 AM »
Does someone have a diagram of the correct way to route a clutch cable for a 89 samurai. Mine keep on getting to hot, and the inside melts making it hard to push and return.

A quick look at my '88 shows that it goes straight out of the firewall, curves around in FRONT (outside) of the of the left (driver's side for USAans) radiator mount, under the drain valve and then around to the clutch cable bracket on the other side of the engine.  This route keeps it at least 5-6 inches away from the manifold -- mostly by going outside the radiator mount.

Hope this helps!

Make sure you have a really good
ground strap on the engine to the
frame or to the battery, if not, the clutch
cable can become your new ground
strap, and get a little melted, kind of
like your problem  :)

the original equip cables are also a lot less likeley to melt because they are made better you can tell the difference by the 2 bolt flange that bolts at the firewall, the good ones are alumunum the bad ones are plastic

Mine is re-routed over the top of the engine and then down by the right front of the radiator (back side by the shroud)then over to the bell housing, not sure if it is a samurai or a side kick cable(longer?)but the guy that had it befor me must of had the same melting problem.(no heat shield on the exhaust manifold)
