Weight comparison btw aluminum and steel fronts
« on: June 11, 2005, 02:06:23 AM »
I have my stock 5.13 geared front axle apart to swap in a steel housing. Did a little weight comparison between them.

diff housing - 32#'s (aluminum), 40#'s (steel)
Axle housing - 9#'s (aluminum), 19#'s (steel)

Counted the ring gear teeth for comparison between the 5.13s and the 4.30s.

5.13 ring has 41 teeth, so that makes the pinion have 8.

4.30 ring has 43 teeth, so that makes the pinion have 10.

Couldn't verify the pinion as it's still together.

By the way, Grand Vitara (not XL-7!) 2000 auto has ring 39 and pinion 8 = 4.875 ratio. It was my mistake, I thought it was 5.125 as XL-7 :(
XL-7 2001 auto, winch, 2"body+3"susp.lift+coil spacers+long arms=33"M/T
