Buying New 2005 XL-7
« on: March 26, 2005, 10:04:23 PM »
We are seriously thinking about purchasing a new XL-7
Have look at other 4x4, but XL-7 seams to be the only vehicle that matches want we want for the price, and is not to expensive to run.

Looked at second hand, rather pay the extra and get new.
So, about mid year, we hope to have a new truck.

My question is, What should I look for in buying new;
I understand the tyres are not good for off road, but we will properly not get off the road initially until we get over the new car thing, so we will replace the tyres with something descent then.
We will get the Cruise Control option.
Will have Nudge Bar and Spot Lights fitted – does Suzuki have options for these, if not, should I get ARB or TJM.
The vehicle we look at did not have driving lights on the spoiler, does Suzuki have these as options.
Will also get bonnet, headlight protectors and seat covers.

Like the manual, but will probably go with the auto as the 95’ GV we own now is starting to piss my partner off when she has to drive to work through traffic.

I picked up my 04 XL7 (new) in May last year. Got 18,500 on the ODO (I travel about 20k+ a year).

The fog lights are optional for $180 not installed. Only the EX's get them factory. The 5spd auto KICKS! You barely feel it shift.

I have a nudge bar of sorts on the front. It's for the 01-03 XL7's. Used a 1" body lift aluminum puck and longer bolts to fit up to the 04+ front bumper. Got off ebay for $80 shipped.

I do not think ARB or TJM have a bull bar for the 04+ model yet (USA anyways). The bar I have is the same crappy thing they make for Rav4's and ML's. It's not for off-road protection only to hold some lights. Pretty thin, weak and decreases front end approach.

I'm working on making 1" lift coil spacers for it. Waiting for parts to arrive. If it works out who knows, I used to own and run a 4x biz couple years ago before selling it.

As for everything else... They don't have many options, pretty much everything is standard on a Suzuki with the expection of Alloy wheels and slush box.

Went from a Grand Cherokee limited to an EX 5 pass. Couldn't be happier about it. This is my 5th Suzuki (first with IFS). Tires do suck off-road but there allright on-road. Even after 18k miles they still look like new though so it's gonna be a while till I get new treads also.

Oh yea, getting the oil filter out/in is a PITA! Get a remote filter relocation kit.
